Gene, we hit a record high of 91 over here this week. That's as hot as it ever gets up here, by the way, even in July. Yeah, I waited too long with the sun block and got pretty fried. :)

My Father always had a dark tan around his neck where his farmer shirt didn't cover. I think that's where the
term "Red Neck" came from.
The trick is to gradually expose yourself to the sun in the Spring. I wear a long sleeve shirt and gradually roll
up the sleeves.
Of course for those of us who went south this last Winter we already have a start on a tan.

In Viet Nam the sun was intense to say the least. The Army gave us baby oil with a bit of iodine in
it to prevent burn. That did work pretty well.
We worked without shirts a lot of the time on the helicopter ramps.

We never wore shirts on the howitzers.

90’s in Wisconsin…

Heard on the news today that we might not see our first 70 degree day until sometime in June. Record for the latest first 70 degree day is May 21st. Looks like the east side of the Rockies and beyond is in a heat wave of sorts but here in the Northwest we are in a perpetual cool pattern.

Well, if you insist on getting a tan, at least make sure and visit your dermatologist regularly. Melanomas are nothing to sneeze at. If you get one and it hits the point where it spreads, your survival rate currently is about 5%. They are easily treated before metastasizing. I had one that my GP didn't recognize. I asked for a dermatology consult because of another spot. That one was nothing, but the dermatologist noticed the one on my neck and biopsied it. Had he not, I wouldn't be here right now.

Altitude makes a big difference in radiation exposure. Airline pilots have a higher instance of many cancers due to increased exposure to radiation at higher altitudes. The claim is that one trip across the pond is the equivalent exposure to a chest Xray. Of course, we are talking 40,000 feet here, but the principal is the same.

With all due respect clovis, I just looked it up, and like I've always been told, you cannot tan or burn through glass. Even standard glass filters out UV rays.
Understand the concerns re: melanoma though!!
