Spreading Nancy’s Ashes

One of the former owners and a woman that was born in this house passed away a couple of weeks ago. Today is her birthday and her family is going to spread her ashes on the hill behind my berm.

They will be coming in an hour and I told them they could walk anywhere on the property. I’ll be inside to give them their privacy and if they wanted to see the inside of the house to knock on the door.

That's a nice gesture on your part. I've told my friend to spread my ashes out in my pasture. Will be out there with my goats.

About a dozen people came and they were up on the hill for an hour. Then they came down and I spoke with most of them. It was nice to hear their stories. Many of them were born in the county and were in their 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. A lot of the stories were about the Ring School which I can see from my front window.

I have occasionally driven by the house I grew up in when I visit my hometown. Never knocked on the door and talked to the folks living there. Small towns are different, even these days.

Good on you for allowing them to say their final goodbye to a loved one.
