Feeding the stump
Feeding the stump
Had some slack time today, so went out and fed my stump some .45 acp. It seems I'm better offhand with the Tisas (head shot grouping) than with a pistol rest (body shots). All from 10yds. I really don't know why the shots from a rest would be so far left and vertically strung, but not from offhand. Same sight picture, etc.

Re: Feeding the stump
Thanks for the words of encouragement, but I really do need to shrink the groups and do it consistently. Consistent small groups means increased confidence that the first shot in a potential confrontation will go where it should. Ammo is expensive and I hate to waste it.

Re: Feeding the stump
Do you hand load? I had a .357 that I hand loaded and tuned. I found that factory loads were often not as accurate
as my hand loads. I tuned the load by experimenting with different amounts of powder until I found one that was
really accurate.
A gun barrel acts like a tuning fork and what you want is for the projectile to leave the muzzle at
the same point of oscillation each time. That's why some ammo is more accurate than others.
Besides, hand loading save a lot of money.

Nope, never have. Been using Fiocchi 230grn ball in this gun so far. That's about all that's available and reasonably priced around me. Anyway, pretty sure the scatter was me, not the ammo or the pistol. That said, this is not a match grade pistol, so I don't expect it to perform like one. I do expect it to perform as well as any of the issue .45's I shot Expert with for many years tho.cooperhawk wrote: ↑Fri May 13, 2022 11:13 amDo you hand load? Very good shooting. I would not worry about the group shot from rest. Focus on your offhand groups and keep that in the impact area you want. Since you shooting a government model, with none adjustable sights, I'd say your right where you want to be.

That's my intent. However, there are circumstances where a make-do support is useful - such as shooting from cover or concealment. So if the problem I had with using a rest isn't remedied, that could be a future potential issue that I'd like to avoid. This is addressed in USMC MCRP 3-01B.
