I've got a week to sober up the rats

As mentioned in one of the photography threads, my wife had a stroke last month and they discovered some other health issues. She is in a rehab facility (no, not that kind of rehab  ) now, and making good progress. She is scheduled to come home next Sunday.

The Pup and I have been working to get the house in shape for her. Got the bathtub converted to a shower. Started putting handrails up in the hall and bath. Trying to get some of the stuff she will need when she gets home. Doing some rearranging to give her better access. Not sure how much care she will need long term, but short term, at least, we will be busy caring for her.

Not looking for sympathy here, just kind of needed to tell some of my friends on the forum about big changes in my life. It could have been much worse, and I am encouraged by the positive change I have seen in her the last week. At first she would only respond to questions, and then it was short replies. Now she volunteers some conversation, talks more and longer, and I am starting to see more and more of the person I have known most of my life. That should improve from here on out.

Now, if I could just get the small whiskey bottle away from that fast little guy in the corner....

I hope your wife continues to do better and better.
Take care of yourself as you care for your wife and the "pup".

Sorry for your situation. Several years ago, we were in a similar spot, but I was in the polytrauma ward at the VA and couldn't come home until the changes had been made. Miss T was lucky enough to have the assistance of a friend of ours who was our "go to guy" for that stuff. Since I was going to be in "The Chair" for a good while, she had to have both exterior doors widened, the bathroom and master bedroom door widened, and just removed the den door entirely. (To meet ADA minimum width requirements.)

She added the various handrails, and a few extras To make both our lives easier. Luckily we had converted the master bath with the roll in shower and accessible counters the previous year.

Best of luck as the Ms. arrives home. as anyone who has done it can attest, therapy every day will be easier with family support... :D Your help with the rhythm or counting if nothing else, will be a blessing. ;) Not only is the PT painful, it's painfully boring alone.

Sorry for you and the Pup, CH. I hope for the best possible outcome. This will most certainly be a challenge for all of you. Let her know what your heart feels and do it often. It will comfort her as she continues to process what is, for her, a very personal and life changing experience. Take good care of yourselves.
