Super Target Ststems

I’m shopping for bullet traps and came across these. They make them for centerfire and some I’ve seen are as big as 36x36. I’m thinking of buying a few so when spring hits I will already have them and can hang them up at a days notice.
Has anyone used these? I’ve found them for a lot less than the MSRP.

Interesting. But, no. Have not used one. Yet, bought something similar for my pellet gun. However, have not used it yet.

I have used a similar company's set up. You see these a lot in custom shops as a way to test firearms. There are a couple of things to keep in mind.
1st unless you put wheels on them, and have a cart, they are not really that portable. Maybe the 12x12, but they are heavy. Moving them around is a pain.
2nd, just like any steel targets, you have a minimum distance you should be shooting at. This comes into play with rifles, or rifle caliber bullets out of a pistol. You start dropping 556 on these at 50 yards instead of the recommended 200, and you will pit the heck out of the back.
3rd. The ones with the media, ie the rubber will help lessen that initial bullet velocity quite a bit. At a range, the bullets are trapped within the first 8-12 inches of that media. The front sheet of rubber will wear out and thus leak the inner media. So it does require maintenance and care. The inner rubber media will have (or should) a fire retardant on it. You might wonder why, but I have seen more than one fire in a range on the pile of rubber.
My suggestion, build a back stop. Get some tires from your local independent service station. Call around to the tree trimming places and have them drop off the wood chips. Screw the tires together, fill them with wood chips. make the tires 3 rows deep and as tall as you want. Then find steel and hang so they swing freely.

Just get 20 tons of dirt/sand pile dumped where you want and good to go!

I have a good natural berm on one side however I want to shoot off my front porch and it would be impractical to push up a berm there. I think the bullet traps would work great for rimfire which is about the highest power I could shoot off the porch. Around back will be the centerfire range.

Well you could try what I started with. Build a wooden box using OSB sheet 3/4 thick for the sides and bottom. 2X4 boards for the frame. Make it as big as you want. I made mine 3ft x3ft x 18 inch deep. Get a piece of that heavy thick rubber stall mat which I found at a local farm supply store and place that on backside of the front. Support the bottom of box on concrete blocks to height you want and fill it up with sand and you can place a lid on top of it to keep weather out. You now have a 3x3 ft. target area 18 inch thick of sand. The rubber mat will self seal the bullet holes to keep sand in.
Mine took 30-06 and 45-70 hits and none went thru. After over 5 yrs. it is still standing catch rounds behind my swinging plate rack even though the center of the OSB board is gone.
