Re: No more mountain view
We thought we'd never leave our place in central va, but things changed. The sale and home search were both a pain. The move was a huge pain. But we told the Oklahoma realtor we wanted remote. She found Ghost Town.
We are surrounded by wooded areas, hay fields, and pastures. Population of the nearest town is 300.
We see more farm equipment and utvs drive by than vehicles.
We love it.
We love it.

Same thing happened to me although it was other issues that drove me away. It was a difficult decision but now that Iโve found a new home Iโm glad I made the decision.
There are so many other place that are better than Snohomish, King and Pierce Counties. I say follow you heart and move to wherever you please.

The very worst thing about moving over a thousand miles away after living in a place for nearly thirty years... You don't have your "guys" any more. I'm not talking about the guys you fish with or hunt with, golf with or shoot with. Of course you miss those guys.
I'm talking about the "important guys."
You know, your go to guy for plumbing, electric, cars, HVAC, major construction, roofing, septic, etc. Oh yeah, we can all do some DIY level stuff, but not everyone can handle pro level stuff when it gets real, and only the rare few can do it all.
So you need to call a guy, and pick the wrong "guy," it can get serious quick.
Yup, we had all the "guys" on speed dial. Now, we don't even have a tire guy.

Worse yet? Docs...
New family docs
Ortho, dermo, dentists, neuro, and for the wife, those lady parts docs.
We're talking trust here.

Just from your photograph I'd say it's time to pack up and go.

Agree and as long as you go you might as well get out of this Washington State that is certainly going in the wrong direction. Iโd suggest Eastern Washington as there are some pretty incredible places to live over here but you wonโt escape the political condition. Local politics can be very positive but the state stuff, not so much.daytime dave wrote: โWed Feb 23, 2022 10:12 amJust from your photograph I'd say it's time to pack up and go.

Kentucky, Tenn, Va. are great places too!
Re: No more mountain view
I was stationed at ft Campbell be it many years ago I thoroughly enjoyed the area..Tennessee has no income/ property tax. We use tricare and VA for health care so within an hour of ft Knox or ft Campbell would be great.. We'll have minimum $155k after sale so if we find something cash we'll have a very comfortable life financial size with my military pension. Not rich but comfortable for us simple folk, that's our dream..

Re: No more mountain view
I truly sympathize with wanting to get away from the crowds... the down side of that is where I live in the quiet lands... more and more people are piling in here, building houses where there had been none, they are tickled pink cause they feel like they are away from the crowd... but they are sure making my world a lot more crowded than it was.. im feeling a little crowded. And no knock on most of the new folk.... but they come from areas with more government services and oversight.... instead of a volunteer fire department, they want a taxed base department and taxed based this and that... they want county zoning so you can't build a chicken coop without getting approval...( so one can be assured all buildings are Safe and so forth.... im used to personal responsibility, that if you are stupid enough to build something that falls in on you .... good enough... you just weeded the gene pool and made it more robust.... sure sure.... my crabby attitude might start a fuss so I will shut up....but do remember, the ozark is filthy covered up with ticks, chiggers, seed ticks, hot sticky summers, nasty cold winters, clannish communities that don't like strangers.... there are plenty of wonderful paradises far away from here. Be sure and check them out before you make a mistake and move here
