I have had 2 reels of 8mm movie film for years as part of pictures an all from my folk's things and have had no way to view them.
This past week my neighbor's home is being cleaned out by their family since they have moved into an assisted living facility and the home has been sold. My neighbor's daughter said any things I wanted out of his garage I could have. I used to help him with little jobs around the home and maintenace on his car and lawn mowers.
So looking around I find this nice 8mm projector of good quality and bring it home. Got to wondering what could be on those two movie reels. My oldest brother had a 8mm movie camera back in the 60's but my folks never had any projector or camera like that.

The reel boxes had the date of 1961 on them and were mailed to my folks home address so I was excited to see what it could be as I loaded up the film. I still have my movie screen from the late 60's when I had received a Super8 camera and projector for Christmas in 1968.

Let the show begin..... WOW it was video of my 7th birthday back in 1961 and my family was all in it! Man that brought back some memories especially the shirt I had on. It was Western style black at shoulder area and red bottom with steer heads on each side!! Must have been watching a lot of the Western movies and kid shows back then of course! Didn't see my cap guns anywhere in the movie but I had them.

What a surprise to see again today! I took a video of both movies onto my i-pad and maybe I can freeze frame a few pics and post here.

That is awesome forty! Can't wait to those. Memories for sure.

Yes... I need to do that along with my other Super 8 movies.

Very cool. That was nice of the neighbor's children too.

Here is one more. My oldest brother still around at age 91 and my other brother in this picture is now 71. Dad to the left and Mom cuttin' the cake!

Mom is looking quite classy... Everyone looks happy.

Yep those were some great times. Dad worked shift work at a large chemical plant and when not working was either adding on to the house or painting houses for other folks. Mom taking care of us till we got into our teens and she went to work part time at a clothing store. It all worked out well in the end.

I love seeing the old pics. I came across a trove of old pics I had scanned not too long ago. Brought back a lot of memories.
I know just how you feel.

Hey Forty. I'm asking a serious question now. If they made that shirt in adult sizes would you get one? I think it would be cool in some of your videos. Not all of them would be right, but some of them would be just right.

That would be cool now wouldn't it! Thing is until I saw that home movie I never remembered having one like that.

Simpler times.

Yeah, I look at pics of some of the clothes "I" chose as a kid and can't believe I ever wore them. I'm sure there WAS a reason. ..

I guess the styles of the times but then at a young age you wore what the folks thought was best for you.

I also remember when I had to have those penny loafers to wear to school like the other guys and then later years the chucka boot/shoe with the turtle neck sweater. When Mom went to work later at a J.C. Penney store she worked in the Men's Dept. and we were always up to current style along with Dad!

I was in full western wear, replica six shooters and all at 3 years old. We were living in Galveston, Texas at the time and the Salt Grass Trail passed right in front of our house. Even got a pat on the head from Roy Rogers.

Wow! Right place at the right time!

I went to some theme park when I was six and living in Florida. My parents told me for weeks I would get to meet my hero at the time, Sky King! I imagined him sitting me on the wing of his plane and chatting about my pony, my daisy rifle, and all the cool things we could do... Then flying in his plane. I dreamed of the meeting for weeks, nearly every night.

The drive to the park took hours, and we left before sun up. I chomped at the bit when my stoopit parents stopped for breakfast along the way. Every employee of the park was in jeans, boots, and cowboy hat for Sky King week... "Where was he?"

Then I saw the ten foot tall cut out of him standing by his plane, and a table in front, he was signing autographs for hordes of juvenile fans. About thirty seconds each... Same thing over and over...

"I watch your show every week, I wouldn't miss it for the wor..."

"Thanks kid, what's your name?" Scribble scribble. A handler moving the kid and his autographed 8x10 along... Next please...

There were two hundred kids in that line. This was NOT my dream.

My parents said to go get in line.
"Never mind." I dug in a toe, and wandered away.

I think they were actually glad I didn't want to spend two hours in line. I didn't WANT to enjoy the park, but within an hour or so, my sister and I were laughing and riding tye rides. Later, at home, I sometimes thought back to that day. Reality bit.. At age six.

Painful childhood memories. Mine is finally getting to go the local amusement park with the neighbors. My dream was to drive the bumper cars. Only to get there and find I was too short to get to ride. Funny how that memory has stuck with me for all these years. The park shut down around then and I never did get to drive those bumper cars…..
