Don't know if this is the right place but Can someone tell me the recoil of a 270 Winchester compared to 30-06, 7mm-08 etc.. I've never fired a 270 (Blasphemy) I know. The LGS just got a really nice left hand 270 savage bolt gun, it's stainless with accu-stock .I messed up by handling it and REALLY liked it and fit like a glove. My last bolt gun was a 30-06 but my neck fusion made me recoil shy however I fired my brothers Garand with reduced loads just fine. Current rifle is a CVA single shot 7mm-08 that's very tolerable with a hot 140gr handload, I have levers, single shot, semiautomatic but no bolt gun currently.

The recoil is probably almost the same or maybe just a little less. If you have that problem go to a .243.

I'm good with the 7-08, the 270 was just a nice fitting rifle

I don't think you'll have a problem with a .270 Win. If handloading, stay around mid to somewhere near max and you'll be fine. I've got a load or two that work pretty darn well in those .270's. It's a great cartridge.

Some of the Savage rifles have an excellent recoil pad on them. I have a Savage in a 338. I know if it was a different rifle it wouldnt be in my safe. This 338 has a really nice pad on it that takes up quite a bit of the recoil. Perhaps you could post a link to the one they have for sale.

For me, in similar rifles, when shooting the classic 270 130 grain load, recoil is roughly about the same if shooting a 30-06 or 308 with a 125 to 130 grain load of similar velocity. Oh, I still know I'm not shooting a 243, but it's doable. It's when I go up to the more standard 150 grain loads in the 308 or 30-06 that it starts to get a bit uncomfortable. In the 30-06, those 165 and 180 grain loads are when it stops being fun. Those start to really hurt.

That's with factory ammo. If you handload, a 270 could be a very manageable shooter.

And don't forget the 25s. The 25-06 is basically a 30-06 with those 115-120 grain loads, but with better ballistics. If you really want nice shooting 25s, the 257 Roberts and the 250 Savage make a nice middle ground in shooting comfort between the 243 and the 270 and the bigger 30s. Also make great dual purpose varmint calibers. The arrival of the 243 really put the hurt on them for popularity, though. Have had some very nice rifles in all of these 25s.

Got a Ruger #1 in .270. Heavy rifles help with recoil. In the field shooting at a deer I never feel it. At the range you know you’ve squeezed a trigger. NC Gal is spot on with the 25’s - good flat shooters and pretty mild. My first Henry Single Shot (first - dang enablers anyway) was the .243. Was worried about it’s capabilities on whitetail, well, no more. Knocks ‘me right down. And super sweet to shoot. It’ll make a good yote rifle, too. If you’re worried about recoil - unless you’re gonna go elk hunting, go 25 cal or drop down to a .243.
