this takes the cake! The Clash has ALWAYS been about Daytona but now some air head wants it at a football stadium field in LA with a 1/4 mile track setup in the stadium. I don't watch much nascar and only if the weather is bad for doing much outside....but this is plain ridiculous!!!!

Football has more sponsorship, it's always about the money

Think about what it costs to transform that Coliseum from football to racetrack and back. Unreal.

Haven't watched NASCAR since # 3 passed and got tired watching them go in circles too many rules and stages. I turned to F1.

I quit watching the little that I did when they turned on their fan base.

They are grasping at straws to revive a sport that they killed by grasping at straws to make it more marketable. The size and shape of that overpriced track in California certainly looks like a track that was put out to pasture. Rockingham North Carolina was incredibly loved by the fans of the roots of Nascar. And the old school drivers loved running there. But it was too small to put 80,000 butts in the seats. So not enough money to put in the pockets of the promoters and sponsors. At the time that the "business" of NASCAR was looking for television revenue markets. Tracks in California, and Las Vegas looked better than the old redneck roots tracks that the fans loved. North Wilkesboro was one of the earliest tracks in the sport. It was where the good old boys who ran shine to put food on the table got together to show off the car that outran the Revenuer the night before. That once well loved and loyally supported track is now a sad overgrown rotting shambles. I still follow some of the drivers and will tune in when a driver like Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, and Martin Truex are setting the track on fire.
I hope that someday the "suits" that now run Nascar figure out that getting back to the roots is the answer to filling up the seats in the stands and the television market.
Keep in mind that I am certainly not an expert commentator on the sport of automobile racing. Just a fan who is vey disappointed with the current state of the sport.

All you guys are right. Don't watch a lot of NASCAR any longer, but, that LA thing is plain damn silly. Ain't watching.

About as silly as thinking "Commanders" is a great name for a lost football team but that is another mess!

I still watch, listen and follow NASCAR quite a bit. It seems it is the only sport that televises the National Anthem...which everyone stands on their feet in respect and honor to our Flag. NASCAR maybe isn't what it used to be, but things evolve, like it or not, and life goes on.

Enjoy for what is left of it if you want. Within couple years only thing you will hear will be the sound of tires and crunch of metal as they take the bold move to electric racers.....full size slot cars!

Believe me...I used to be an avid NASCAR fan many years ago. Everything was put on hold for the race on Sunday.
NOT anymore though. I might tune in briefly to see what this rediculous debacle looks like because it is so odd. I stress, BRIEFLY.

Looks like they could easily wreck and kill some fans, which by the way are 70 percent, not previous NASCAR fans. Not my judgement; that's what they said on the news.

I remember seeing the remains of the old track in Daytona. Half the track was up in the dunes, and half was on the beach itself. When I was little and we went to the inlet, we would pass the remains of the stands. The new track was right next to the High School I attended. Think I went to two races growing up in Daytona. There were a fair number of local NASCAR fans, but a lot of us wanted little to do with the stuff that caused us lots of problems every year. Things like bike week, several of the car race weeks, spring break etc. Yes, it brought in lots of money, but it also made day to day life more difficult for the locals. Most folks didn't stray out from home any more than necessary during bike week in the 60s and early 70s.

I can CERTAINLY understand that!

It was the same thing when I lived in NJ about 1 mile from Raceway Park in Englishtown. Saturdays and Sundays were bad getting around with all the race crowds. But when they had the Nationals or a big swap meet It was a mess. Telling the truth I was a big drag fan and my son went to school with one of the owners sons so we always had free passes and the best seats in the house so I really can't complain. Or maybe I just like to complain!

I have been to that track a couple of times but now it is gone.

they say that 70% of the fans at this year's Clash will be new fans who have never attended another race ... its on secrete that NASCAR's fan base has drastically shrunk in the last few years .... from what's been said here, several of us were in that number .... they appear to believe it will be easier to find new fans than it will be to bring the ones they have disenfranchised .... unless they are willing to make some drastic changes, I tend to believe that's true

Fortyshooter....the track is still there for other venues but the drag strip part is now a parking lot for some big company to store cars.
In January 2018, NHRA and Raceway Park officials announced that the venue will cease hosting all drag racing events due to rising costs.

I lived out in NJ when I was young. A friend of the family used to take me to the strip almost every Sunday. Used to love drag
Racing. Saw Shirley ( Cha Cha ) Muldowny, Big Daddy Don Garlit, Don Prudome etc. ( might have mis-spelled a couple names ).
Anyway...NV, you brought back good memories when you mentioned Englishtown Raceway Park.
Sorry for the off topic story...just old, fun memories coming out.
