I have a friend who wants to buy some of my 45 Colt handloads. Told him I don't feel comfortable selling my handloads.He seemed a little annoyed but I explained to him 1. they are tailored to my gun 2. If there is one bad round ( which I doubt very much) in the batch there is no telling the damage it can do to you or your gun. He got the point and we are still friends.

Agreed, I would not do it either.

I have been to gun shows where vendors were selling hand loads. No thanks it is a hard pass for me. Glad your friend saw the reason in your decision.

Instead of saying no, invite him over to load his own brass using your equipment and knowledge. That accomplishes many good things, he gets some range ammo, he learns a new skill, and everybody is satisfied. Tell him he can repay the favor with primers or bullets in the future if he feels like it. No pressure!

Barter like this is fine, do NOT let him pay you directly, because that makes it a business transaction, with all sorts of personal liability issues. A similar situation to a boat owner offering to take strangers out for a ride. If they bring beer or doughnuts, no worries, but if you ask each one to pay $20 towards gas, that makes it a business, and you could get into serious trouble with the Feds for running an illegal charter operation, which must meet rigid Coast Guard requirements and also have a licensed captain on board….

John, I would expect no primers so that kills that Idea. But thanks for the input.

I do not handload. But, I suspect there can be a bad round, regardless who makes it. Since most people do not want to hurt themselves, a handload round is probably just as high or higher quality as a factory round. Yet, I can understand there being a liability concern.

The problem with the quality of a handload is the person that loaded it. There are some folks I wouldn't hesitate to shoot their loads. Others, I would have to take a pass. If I don't know them well, they would fall in the latter category.

I wouldn't want to buy or sell a hand load either, therefore I fully agree.

But it does bring to mind that I know of at least one company out there that started their business that way.

Just saying, but I'm glad they are out there.
