Old missing picture found

My brother recently found a picture that has been lost for a lot of years. It is a 68 year old picture of my older sister and me. My sister is six and I was four. The rabbit is a Belgium rabbit called a giant something but the rest of the name I can't remember. I know my Grand Pap raised them and this one was named Sam. It weighed 24 lb. He had one bigger that was nearly 28 lb. He used to get them out for us to play with and they would follow us around the yard like a puppy would do. I lost my sister pictured her last year.

Miss T raised rabbits for several years, never had one anywhere near that big.

Wonderful to have old family pictures. My daughter now keeps my mothers family album that goes back to mom and dad's wedding in 1936. A lot of memories in there.

Hasn't been missing but here's one I have that's at least 68 years old since I just turned 69. My grandfather holding me. He was a pretty gruff old Dane, passed at 92 when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. Had many grandchildren, had 10 kids back when you needed them for farmhands.

I don't have a lot of old family photos, my dad took almost all slides. I think my brother probably has them. Here's photo of my dads camera, I still have it and used it when I first started until I got a Mamiya/Sekor SLR that actually had a built in light meter . I still haven't read the whole 600 page manual for my Canon 70d.

I'm with you. I haven't cracked the spine on my Canon SLR manual either. I did take a digital photography class several years ago. I can take the thing off automatic with some (very little) confidence.
My previous neighbor at camp is a professional photographer. His advice was to shoot everything in RAW and fix it on Photoshop. I tried that for a while, but found it too much to expect. I do print out some digital photographs from time to time, especially of our own Ranch Roper. I like the ability to take several shots with my digital and hope a few will come out ok. Until I improve my skills the old fashioned way I will continue that way.

By the way, the photograph and your description of your grandfather reminds me a lot of my paternal grandfather.

My family that is left doesn't have a dozen pictures between us from years ago. That is one reason I posted this picture as it is one of maybe three old pictures I have and it means a lot to me to have it back. My family's pictures were all lost in a house fire 16 years ago that also took my Dad from us.

My Grandfather and his family, the little one in the white gown is actually my Father, he was born in
1910 so this had to be taken around 1911 or 12.
Grandpa was in Roosevelt's Rough Riders in the Spanish American War. He led a very colorful life.
The later pictures are of my Dad and his older brother Laurance as kids growing up in North Dakota.

Grandpa ran a section of land growing wheat until 1929 when he lost everything in the great crash of the depression.
He and Grandma had 15 children, 9 boys, 6 girls. Of the 9 boys, 7 served in WWII, and 1 in Korea.
Of the girls, all six husbands served in WWII.
I was the first to served in Vietnam and I was followed by many younger cousins.
I have pics of them all.

You might notice that in the photo of Grandma and her daughters there are only five, not six. The oldest lived in Washington State and was not there.
Here is a picture of my Mother's old Kodak from the 1940s. I had it on a shelf and it got all dusty.
I have literally hundreds of photos that she took with it.

This picture was taken with that old Kodak some time in 1946 or 47. Dad was just home from the war
and had gone deer hunting. Also shown is my younger brother who passed in 2003. I still miss him.

Thanks for those photographs, the history to go along with them and especially the device that captured some of those wonderful slices of time.

Please keep them coming. They are just as warming as the fireplace at the moment!
