I dug out a few old military wool blankets because its getting chilly at night. I have two Pendleton wool blankets that I bought in the late seventies and late nineties. But my favorite wool blankets are old military. In this picture a U.S. Army blanket is made on the bed. The pillow is also wrapped in a blanket just like we did in the Army. On the rail is a Swiss Army blanket. These are oversize and are great as the final cover. The other blanket is from Israel and is very thick.

Nothing beats a wool blanket for taking off the chill in winter. Wrap up and watch football (or maybe the inside of my eyelids!).

Say that when I bring the down comforts out. Actually down is too light weight so the combination of wool as the first layer and down as the second is the best.

We have a 6 point Hudson Bay wool blanket that we bought in 1983. Fits a queen size bed. Extremely warm. I also have a wool blanket coat I wear in winter. With an old frontier wool shirt, wool vest and the coat I've ridden in -20 and never cold. Great blankets Sir Henry.

I donated several US Army wool blankets when I cleaned out the house. I have several regular wool blankets for bed. I have always wanted a Hudson Bay point blanket.

I have several wool garments for cold weather. These include Malone bibs, a Filson flap hat and a vintage LL Bean Makinaw. Several other wool items too. The newest is an LL Bean Malone Plaid Shirt Jac. Can't wait to need to wear it. I love that pattern.

Oh ya forgot my wool Elmer Fudd hat.

Fuddwear we call them.

Good stuff. I grew up in the Ohio valley. Crazy damp all winter. Nothing beats wet cold like wool.

Wool is great for warmth, I still have my old Woolrich hunting coat from the 1960"s. My dad had brought some Army blankets home from the war but they are long gone. I also have a nice Pendelton wool shirt but I have to wear a long sleeve undershirt under it because I cannot stand the wool against my skin. It makes me very itchy.

This is my coat made from a heavy wool blanket. River Junction shop in Iowa makes them from an early 1900's pattern. In the movie Monte Walsh (Selleck version) his pal Chet has one. With this coat and my wooly chaps, I'm ready for the blizzards!

Dave you are a fuddy guy. My Pendleton is of the Hudson Bay design.

Sheep wool is barbed and that is what makes you itch. Other wools like Merino isn't barbed and can feel soft like cotton.

Just as an aside Gene, I recently got my Pendleton catalog. No Elmer Fudd hats again. Some nice jackets of wool, but no Fudds. Makes me cherish mine more.

If I remember right you have some Filson stuff too.

Not a big fan of wool myself. For cold/wet crappy Ohio winters I prefer Carharts, I have a pair of bib overalls, quilted medium
protection lining. When I plow snow on the old 44 8N Ford, I sweat if I have my coat zipped up also And that's w/just longlohns under.
Unless of course there is a 30mph wind and -20deg windchill. Then I zip up my coat, it's a Carhart too
I got a pic of the old girl in action on ph, I'll put on later.

Here's the Ford pullin snow. Belongs to my neighbor w/the Road Runner. His health makes it hard to breath in cold, so I plow 3 drives as he did for me for over 10 yrs.

Gotta love that Ford. If I remember right the engine/transmission is also the frame.
