My moms 100th birthday
My moms 100th birthday
I apologize if this doesn’t belong here...but
My mother died 5 years ago. Yesterday would have been her 100th birthday.
Like many of you, I grew up in the 50s and 60s. It was an almost magical time. We were a military family.
Mom, after having 5 children, went back to college. She got a degree in chemistry!
While managing a family with her spouse gone a lot, she started a career in hospital laboratories. She worked for over 20 years. And was a respected member of several hospitals. Amazing.
She was a Wisconsin outdoors gal. She led us on many adventures. She taught us there is good stuff wherever you are. And, good people too.
I just want to honor her, and all of the greatest generation.
We owe so much to these heroes.

All of my family of that generation are gone but I am glad that I was brought up under their influence and ethics.

Sounds like you had a magical childhood. My Dad wasn’t military but he worked out of town M-F quite a bit and my Mom made life for me and my siblings very special.

I am a 1st generation American. My mom and dad were old school Italians They brought me up with old school standards the first being respect of others. The 50's & 60's was a great time to be growing up.I miss my mom & dad and miss the country I was brought up in.

Don't give up yet. That country is still here and I think will make a comeback soon.
I see full churches and people going back to old customs.

Re: My moms 100th birthday
My mom passed at 93, she would have been 110 a couple of days ago. Grew up on a farm in N. Dakota, 7 brothers who were all farm hands. She said her mom, sister and her would spend most of the day cooking as the brothers were doing hard farm labor and would eat huge breakfasts and lunches. She wanted to get her HS diploma so had to go live with an aunt in a larger town that had a High School.
She had an incredible amount of friends, when she passed they had a packed house funeral at the church she attended for several years when she moved to Bellingham and then another even bigger funeral here in Wenatchee. I remember the pastor saying that he had never had a funeral with the full church choir singing but that Florence had requested it and they couldn't turn her down.
