For the first time in almost 40 years

Post by clovishound » Sat Nov 20, 2021 8:09 pm

I'm thinking I may actually enjoy this Christmas season.

FYI I retired a couple months ago from the Post Office. Sort of put a damper on the season for me. I'm sure there are others in careers that tend to throw a wet blanket on the holidays. I can remember nights when I was supposed to get off by midnight, but I would be singing "Daylight come and me wanna go home." as I was finally walking out the door.

Bah Humbug was not just a pretty phrase for me, but words to live by.

Still not ready to send Christmas cards, although you never know.

Hope it’s a good one for you.
I worked service calls for Kodak photo processing for about seven years. Customers all had retail hours. Made holidays a lot less fun. Now I feel guilty anytime I walk into a store that is open on a holiday. And I tip extremely well if I have to eat at a restaurant. You should see the look on drive through workers at fast food places when you tip them more than your order was.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

I worked rotating shifts for most of thirty two years. I worked Christmas Days, Thanksgiving days, ect. In fact while I was single and without children to raise I volunteered to work them so family men and women could be home. I don't regret a minute of it. In fact I like to dwell on all the happiness I helped create for others. I also missed holidays while in the service.

I've been retired for twenty one years now and enjoy the holidays as much as the next guy. I've done my time.

Well, while I had to work a lot of overtime around Christmas, and couldn't take leave to visit family during the Holidays, I never had to work Christmas day. I worked my share of Thanksgiving day. OK, I believe I had to work one or two Christmas day holidays when I worked the night shift. Of course, I was able to be home Christmas morning with the family, so it wasn't a big deal.

Congradulations! Enjoy your time. That is one thing that we don't get more of.

I hear you. I worked 48 hr week-ends for most of my 41 years as a Radiologic Technologist. I don't remember how many Holidays that I didn't work. I would go to work at 7 AM Saturday and work to 7 AM Monday AM. Our hospital had 38 beds plus surgery and ER. I retired 3 years ago.
I always enjoyed the green ham and sweet potatoes the cafeteria ladies would serve us. Good Times! I miss that. It is strange to always have most of my family suddenly show up at the last 3 years only on Holidays. Always hungry!
