We have been here at the new farm since June of 2020, so about sixteen months, give or take? The flagpole out front was here when we moved in, but held only one flag, we added two extra sets of clips so we could add a couple more. No telling how long the original owner had the snap hooks in place.

IN the past 16 months they have lived thru severe thunderstorms, near tornado force winds, snow and ice, and more. LAST night we had severe wind warnings and we could almost swear the brick portion of the house was shaking.
;)

Went out this morning and noticed the US Flag was spinning like a top, hanging on by just the one grommet, the other had come loose. Pulled the flags down and took them all off and found the top hook had finally given way. A close look showed the wear that time and weather had placed on it. The constant pounding of the grommets of dozens of flags had nearly worn their way thru the loop of the hook, but the sliding clip had finally given up the ghost. I removed the bad clip and the other metal clip, leaving the two pairs of nylon clips in place. We'll stick to the National Colors and the Marine Flag for now.

I don't know about you guys, but after the beating put on me by two careers, I kinda feel like this.
;) Some of my parts have given up the ghost and others feel almost worn through. But... I'm not ready to be put aside yet.

Yep, I hear ya. I have several after market parts in me ( artifical hip, heart stint, etc. Etc)
Like my old diesel tractor sitting in the shed, It's harder to get the engine to crank and fire on a cold morning, and neither one of us has the horsepower we once did when we first came off the line..... but, neither one of us is quite ready for the junkyard yet. That day, of course, comes for us all eventually.... but not yet....so on we chug on,.. with a few oil leaks and more smoke...
No matter. We did our part out in the main channel where the current is swift, when it was our watch... let the young lions fight out in the deep water.... there is some interesting stuff to see as we slip along through the backwater slowly headed toward the bank... enjoy this time as well, at a slower pace....๐Ÿ‘

understood on the after market parts, I'm walking around with one of them installed and with some OEM parts missing .. ;) .. the flag pole and flags we use on our camper take a beating when flown in South Dakota for over 3 months in addition to over 3 months in Texas .... we usually have to replace our flags each year and the metal hooks that connect them to the flagpole every couple of ears

Well my friend, you moved into tornado alley. I grew up learning to enjoy watching the storms move across the plains as a kid.
T-Storms are a fascinating thing to watch, as long as the miss you. A few years back one took my Father's truck warehouse while he was parked in front in his pickup. The building was destroyed and his truck wasn't even scratched.
We've had two hit here on the homestead, but they were small and did minor damage, although they took some trees down and wrecked my cat boat.

Just learn to enjoy the excitement. :D

I was just amazed at the wear on that snap ring.

Yeah, thatโ€™s pretty incredible that it took all that wear and held up as long as it did.
