Hiking to Camp Muir on Mount Rainier
I'm getting up at 3 am to drive down to Rainier for an all day hike to Camp Muir. I've wanted to do this for quite a while and am walking with a group that wants to do it. The hike/climb is only ten miles but we gain 5,000 feet and Muir itself is just over 10,000 feet. I'm in great shape but don't know if I can do altitude anymore. I've climbed Rainier 13 times but all more than 30 years ago. I'm thinking of climbing it again next summer.

Re: Hiking to Camp Muir on Mount Rainier
I ended up not going. I hike with a group of people during the weekdays and one woman wanted to hike to Camp Muir so I said I would lead the way. I've hiked to Muir dozens of times and have climbed Rainier 13 times. I want to hike it once more. So we were to meet at a Park n Ride at 4:30 am on Sunday. I was to meet the women and two of her friends that I had never met. All were late and I drove off without them. Since Camp Muir was not my idea I didn't feel like hiking it as its a long drive down.
I'm going to climb Chair Peak solo tomorrow morning.
P.S. all three gals are mad at me for leaving and said it was my fault they didn't make it to Muir.

I usually subscribe to the college classroom rule. If a professor is fifteen minutes late, class is cancelled. That they blamed you for missing the hike is sad. Why didn't they hike it anyway?Sir Henry wrote:All were late and I drove off without them. Since Camp Muir was not my idea I didn't feel like hiking it as its a long drive down.

I hope you enjoy the solitude of Chair Peak.

They were unexperienced and didn't have the knowledge to hike on their own. Back when I was climbing every weekend I ended up going solo many times because people were late. I have no tolerance for lateness.

A courtesy call would have been nice. I like to be prompt or a bit early. I really get upset if I'm late for anything.

Come on now. You can't be surprised that the women blame you. You are old enough to know that men are always at fault. How long did you wait before you drove off?Sir Henry wrote:So we were to meet at a Park n Ride at 4:30 am on Sunday. I was to meet the women and two of her friends that I had never met. I didn't wait at all. When my cellphone read 4:30 I drove off. I told them I wouldn't wait so where was the big surprise?Hack wrote:Come on now. You can't be surprised that the women blame you. Re: Hiking to Camp Muir on Mount Rainier
My, my, how unreasonable. They are women! I am sure that they believed that so long as they LEFT before the 4:30 AM meeting time, they'd be fine and you would happily be there waiting for them. No wonder they are so upset.
I can't tell you the number of times my wife asked why I was upset while we were driving to an event. Because we are late, I would say. Then she'd point out that we weren't late yet even though there was no way that I could get us there on time.

Re: Hiking to Camp Muir on Mount Rainier
I was actually trying to build a rope team to climb Mount Rainier next summer and they knew this and wanted to be part of the team. They have little experience and I've climbed Rainier 13 times. I go for power walks with a group of people and that is where I met the one women. I have a walk with them Friday and it will be interesting to see if she shows up.
