Unlike most lakes in Minnesoooota it has never been stocked. It is listed as a "Primitive" lake, so there are
a lot of native sunnies, bullheads, carp, and even Sturgeon. But they do stock the lake that the outlet leads into,
so whatever comes upstream to spawn can be found. The problem with the lake is it is full of bait fish. So many
in fact that bait dealers harvest them with traps in the Winter by the millions, and for that reason it is very
difficult to get fish to bite. They're simply not hungry. I have had something bite a wooden bait in two leaving
tooth marks.
Now many would say that's not good, but we like it like this. I am chairman of the Shoreland Owners Assn. and we
have had offers from the DNR to stock the lake, but then they have to put in a public landing. That would mean
large power boats, jet skies, and lots of noise day and night. We like it just like this. We have eagles nesting, Loons,
ducks of many species, geese, owls, hawks and all kinds of animals living around the lake. It's like a primitive wonderland.
We can go canoeing and not worry about some power boat swamping us. In fact we can go out in the evening and not
see anyone else, usually.
Peace and tranquility, except during waterfowl season.
When I want to fish for walleyes and northens there are several lakes within twenty minutes that I can take my big boat too.
