An Interesting Question?
I call and check on my old patrol partner once a week or so, and he posed an interesting question during our last long chat.
"If money wasn't an issue, what firearm would you add to your collection?"
I had just read an article on one, and it was quick to come to mind. The single action that the Duke carried in many of his movies is coming up for auction in the near future. With Yellowed Faux Ivory Grips, made to fit his hands, an oversized grip frame, oversized trigger guard, and the actual gunbelt he wore with the 45-70 round centered in the rear and the 44 rounds on either side filling the loops... Add certificates of authenticity, Movie posters and still shots from the various films, some autographed by the Duke. Yup. They expect bidding to run in the $20,000 to $40,000 range. I'd think it would go for more. The Gun was carried by the Duke in Big Jake, The Cowboys and so many more.
Of course the Quigley Rifle was another, and the "Hand of God" from 3:10 to Yuma would be in the running.
A real, 1st Run Single Action Colt, preferably one with some "History."
Production Guns?
A 70 Series Colt Gold Cup National Match 45 from the Colt Custom Shop, back when Colt was Colt.
An Original 6" Python
and a full auto Thompson.
I personally would want or need a lot of fancy engraved or inlaid stuff....
How about y'all.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

Re: An Interesting Question?
I have to agree with you on the gun and rig belonging to the Duke. That would be very special to me.

Re: An Interesting Question?
I think Selleck donated the Quigley rifle to a museum and I think that's the best place for it so that the public can enjoy it.
As for me, I'm purely a shooter, not a collector, so nothing comes to mind that would do a better job than what I already have or have had in the past. After thinning the herd so much the last couple years, it would take something very special to have me start buying guns, again. It would be nice to travel back in time and buy some guns, though, knowing what I know, now.

Re: An Interesting Question?
A few years back I sold a Gold Cup National Match and a six inch Python. I got good money for them.
Would I like them back. No, I have enough guns and I'm getting older. I'm into downsizing now.

Re: An Interesting Question?
Years ago, I sold a pair of six inch sequentially serial numbered pythons. I used the money for the things I needed for my new daughter, born in Hawaii. Crib, changing table, stroller, playpen, and all the rest. I sold a custom Colt Commander a couple months later.
I don't regret those sales in the least.
The question was if money was no object...
I don't need any of them.
Wouldn't sacrifice the family budget to obtain them...
But... If I happened to play the lottery, which I don't, and won....

Re: An Interesting Question?
Well, since you asked and got no real answers yet, I'll tell you what I bought myself for my second retirement recently.
I retired for the second (and last time) at the end of July this year. I found my way to my favorite gun shop in Saranac Lake NY. Last year the owner had purchased some very nice shotguns from an estate of a collector. I saw some of them when they were only doing curbside service last year. It's easier to look at things and see things inside a shop.
So I purchased my new place adjacent to my stepson's place and it has grouse on the property and his does too. I looked at some beautiful shotguns one Saturday at that gunshop. In the end I couldn't decide between the Parker reproduction 20 ga or the Ceasar Guerini over and under 20 ga. Both fit me perfectly. After much contemplation, I took both. Happy retirement to me. (The Guerini is for my step son, but only when we hunt together. They will all be his when I'm gone)
I can't post any pictures for a while. They are stored away in their cases from the move and will surface in the Spring.

Any one of the 4 of these.

If I could only have one, I would choose the 3rd one.

Don’t know if I need any other than what I have. Pretty much have it.covered.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.
