I was on my way home from Lowes this morning at about 10:30 when I spotted a a big doe cross the road in from of me. So knowing better, I slowed down and about 50' behind her was a nice buck. He was in a hurry, but he sure had a nice rack on him. This time of year you have to be looking for these animals. They get crazy when chasing a doe.

no sign of the rut around our area but I wouldn't be surprised to have it start any day

Around here the rut doesn’t start until towards the end of October. Way back in the day we used to have a late buck season that started the Wednesday of the Thanksgiving weekend and lasted until the Friday of the week following the holiday. That was so nice as the rut was in full force and that combined with the four day weekend and the potential of some snow on the ground made for some great hunting. I can remember hunting on Thanksgiving morning and then coming home for the big family dinner. The Bourbon tasted especially good on that day.

Seems like there was always a turkey leg in my fanny pack on Friday.

Been there. Done that. Now I know what it takes for an old buck to survive. The properties that I’m looking at in Wisconsin are marketed to hunters. You might be a redneck if the listing has more pictures of the tree stands than it does of the house.
