Range story.

I was at the range today with my BB 44 mag. I had been picking up what little brass I let hit the floor. It came time for a cold range and a target change. walking out I saw 2 cases on the floor and picked them up. They looked a little dirty to be my handloads. Next thing you know a couple more landed by me. Huh. The range was pretty quiet and I looked at the guys a couple of lanes over that had been shooting 22's. Guy was shooting what looked like a big Ruger 10/22. I went over and talked to him. Sure enough He was shooting a Ruger semi auto carbine in 44 mag. I never knew they made such a thing. He said it was his home defense gun. I could see that. Semi-auto 44 mag. Dang that sounds like fun!

I knew Ruger made the PC9 (9mm) and PC40 (.40 S&W) semi-auto rifles which were pretty close in appearance to a 10/22, but I didn't know they ever made a .44 mag.

I would love to have a PC9 or PC40, but they are pretty hard to find and one in good condition seems to be in the $700-$800 range. For that price you can pick up a brand new Beretta CX4 Storm or a Just Right carbine.

back in the late 60's I bear hunted in the mountains of western NC .... being able to use the same cartridge in my hunting revolver and rifle appealed to me .... I settled on 44 Mag for use in a Ruger Blackhawk and a Ruger 44 mag carbine .... even though it served well in taking down both black bear and boar, I never liked the Blackhawk and ended up selling them both .... to this day I regret selling the 44 carbine ....50 years later I'm pretty much back on the same page with a Ruger Redhawk and Henry 44 rifle .. .. really like them both ..

I wish I could get one of those Ruger .44 mag carbines. It would be a great companion to my Smith 29's. Just as my BB .44 is.

I see them sometimes on the used racks at Cabela's. They tend to be pretty pricey. Cool, though.
