New puppy is home

Post by Hatchdog » Mon Sep 13, 2021 11:39 am

Saturday we drove 800 miles to Payson Ut, about an hour south of Salt Lake City to pick up our new pup. Got a room and on Sunday morning drove to the breeders home and picked the little guy up. Drove home which took 14 hours due to stopping at every rest stop to give the little guy a chance to get out of the crate and do some running around. He is a great traveler and didn’t complain one time. Put him to bed last night around 10:00 and he slept without a peep until 5:30 this morning. Gotta like that! :D

We’re having a fun time this morning watching him play and just be a puppy. There have been many trips outside helping him understand that’s where he is to do his business. This is our first pup since being retired and sure is nice to be available for him.

First there was Hatch… 2000 to 2009, RIP buddy.

Then came Massey…2009 to 2020, RIP buddy.

An now we have Trey. Trey is a slang term for the number three and since he is our third Golden Retriever a perfect name we think! :D

Great looking pup. My sister-in-law has had Goldens for years. She currently has two. Very sweet big babies. They are a wonderful breed.

When my Granddaughter here in Oklahoma was born, my daughter and her husband bought a Golden to grow with her. (Pumba) He was her constant companion for seven years. A great dog. Beautiful pup, love the name.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Great pic Coach!

Trey is doing well after being a bit food shy at first. We got some RX type wet food from our vet and mix a dab with his dry food and he’s doing much better. Sleeping well at night but still needing to get up once to do his duty. Happy to oblige.

He really likes to climb on these low stumps and either sit or lie down. Funny habit.

Poor Trey was pretty tuckered out last night. He had several visitors during the day between work guys and the neighbors and then a trip to the vet late in the afternoon. He was on the small side when we got him home but has doubled his weight in two weeks. Vet says he’s still too skinny and told us to increase his food amount. That will make him happy. Otherwise he’s doing great and is all puppy and wearing us out!

Here’s Trey sitting on his platform watching the Dishscape Halloween show. He sure is getting big. 3 months on the 12th of this month. Next week he goes in for his last shots and two weeks after that we can start taking him out in public. So for we’ve been taking him to places where we don’t expect other dogs have been (parvovirus) and he sure enjoys getting out. Also he has been riding in our side by side on the seat between us and he really enjoys that. Good trailing for when we start him on Grouse hunting. Also he had his first trip in the car not being in a crate. He really enjoyed sitting and watching out the window. Back of a SUV with the seats folded flat.

I try to get him out for at least one good hike a day. Yesterday we went to the back of my place which is still pretty thick although this pic shows a pretty open spot. I haven’t cleaned this part up yet as it’s thick and steep but it’s a great workout for the pup and me. I will be cutting an ATV road/trail in soon which will make our hike a bit easier. Here he is yesterday enjoying himself.
