Would you order without a guaranteed price ?

With the way inflation has caused the price of raw materials to sky rocket, RV manufacturers have been raising prices monthly. We have a friend who ordered a new DRV ===> http://www.drvsuites.com/ in mid March and said he learned through talking to his dealer that any order after June 2 is not price protected from price increases. You agree to a price when you order, but you also now have to agree to accept any increases by DRV until your coach goes into production. DRV says most units go into production in 60 days, but his hasn't started yet due to backlogs. He's protected against increases because of his order date. If he wasn't, he would have at least a 20% price increase. DRV isn't the only manufacturer doing this, he's seen recent videos of of other dealers saying the same thing.

So, would you order a new coach if you didn't have a finalized price?

Initial response is no but these are strange times. I guess if you want a new RV bad enough one may agree to those terms. Hopefully in a year of two we will be back to normal on recreational vehicles. I stopped into a local shop that sells boats along with a good selection of accessories last week. Good inventory of supplies but they had only three boats on hand in the showroom and ZERO outside. Normally outside they would have a couple of dozen smaller fishing type Jon boats and V hull boats and NADA……

Well this kind of happened to us also. But the dealer made it right by doing other things to offset some of it. I got all the extras I had on my last RV for nothing and a new 18K hitch so I wasnt as bad off as I could of been.

Nope, the things they are playing these games with are often luxury items like boats and RVs, UTVs and motorcycles.
If we were going to buy one of these things we would wait until the price stabilized or do without entirely, put the money to other uses.
We had this conversation with a friend a few days ago, one who has multiple investments in the community, and has money to spend.
"If people stopped letting companies hold them ransom and stopped buying, then the pricing might return to normal, or at least closer to normal."
I told him he is probably right, unfortunately, there are those who will/or have to buy at the inflated prices and will keep doing so. Like lumber, plumbing supplies, appliances, furniture.
If you have to have it, you have to have it. Fire, Failure, moving, repairs...

This is why I haven't put an order in on a full size, 2 door Bronco. They can't guarantee a fixed price. Plus, I want to sit in one and drive one. If these aren't possble, I'll wait. Or, not at all.
