I haven't brought it home yet, but I was just gifted a Carver stereo receiver and a pair of Elac speakers.
I've long known the name Carver, but am not familiar with the Elac name.

My very limited Google-Fu tells me that Elacs are no cheapies.
I'm guessing that the speaker quality would at least be close to the receiver quality, but I won't know for sure what I have until I can bring it home and get some model numbers and such.

I am excited about the Carver.
They were made by the guy who started the Phase Linear company.
I could not afford a Carver back when stereos were important to me.
A few years back I got my hands on a Harmon Kardon receiver and I paired it with a set of old Marantz speakers that I picked up for a song.

Anyone know anything interesting about Carver receivers or Elac speakers?

Hmm, not familiar with those. Years ago, I had a Marantz reciever and pre amp with a pair of Jensen]?] speakers. Heck of a set-up. When the Marantz blew a tube, I sold all that on Craig's List[with disclosure of tube failure]. The old stuff sure did kick it! Ahh, the days.

I still have Nikko 3035, Technicues direct drive turntable, and Boston Acoustic speakers. I've had the speakers re-coned a few years back. Can't beat the old stuff for great sound.

No longer have any vintage stuff but back in the day I had a pair of Jensen LS-3 floor speakers. Now why would I still remember the model number when I can’t even remember what I had for lunch today. Can’t remember the brand of my receiver but my turntable was a Micro-Seki. Spun many a LP on that baby.

My dad had a Clairtone big mahogany cabinet. Stereo. Johnny Cash on Sunday mornings!

Seriously, they are.
I still have a couple of milk crates full of playable albums.
I even have a couple of picture discs. One of the Grateful Dead and another of Steppenwolf.
I also have a master recording of the Grateful Dead.

I need to get me a new turntable...

No, ours gave up the ghost years ago, however I do have a Seeburg Juke Box. It's the one called the "Happy Days Model" and still works. In fact I just went through it replacing some song labels and 45s. I've had it since the early 70s.

I used to have a Technics, what they called their " Ultra Reciever " and two large Cerwin Vega speakers. Not sure what became of those items. I now have a Denon reciever and a vintage linear tracking Sansui turntable. I have lots of old vinyl that i have been recently cleaning and enjoying.

Between my wife and myself we have probably over a 100 LP’s on hand. Mostly 60’s and 70’s music with a heavy emphasis on MoTown for her and mainstream rock for me.

Well of course. It wouldn't be cool to pay for music.

I have about a dozen tube radios. Does that count? Most are post-war but a few are pre-war.

They don't build em like they used to...right!
I'd personally say that counts!

My only remnant from the past is my BIC 960 turntable. I never had a vacuum tube amp since I hated VT technology and wanted nothing to do with it. I still fire-up the turntable and play some of my old vinyl albums once in awhile.

I have A Marantz 2215B stereo receiver from about 1975. Replaced most of the factory bulbs however no bulb for the red stereo light. Took some tv tuner spray cleaner and washed all controls of dirt and corrosion . Still sounds great with two pair of Radio Shack speakers, front and back.

I had a Marshall tube amplifier at one time. Fender one too. Nice sound.

I have a Yamaha component system, power amp, pre-amp and receiver. Micro Seiki DD-24 turntable and Bose 901 speakers. Don't listen to it much anymore. I have maybe 50 LP's in good condition, had several hundred from the late 60's and the 70's that were played at too many parties, got pretty scratched up.
