Thanks, the best collection of WWII photos that I have seen. Most of them I had never seen. I'm saving them to my inbox to view from time to time. My dad was in from 1941 to 1945, 29th Infantry Division. Prior to that he was in the field artillery and the tank destroyers. He went in as an enlisted man, private. He had the rank of Captain when he was discharged in 1945. I still have his dress uniform coat.

My Dad served from '43 to '45 in the Army Air Force, in the South Pacific.

My father was in the Army in the 50's. He was stationed in Germany the same time Elvis was in the army. He told me Elvis came on the base one day. He went the opposite way and found the PX mostly deserted.
My dad drove trucks.

Here is a photo of my Dad's first ship, he was 18 years old. The USS Sitka sitting dockside In Yokohama Harbor 12 days after the surrender. I have a letter he wrote to his mom while they were there. I will have to get it out of storage and frame it with the photo.

My father served from '41 to '57.
Fought in Europe and the North African thearters.
Was among the first to land in Korea.
I have his dress jacket and medals.

I had three close family members, and a future step-uncle, serve in WWII. My Uncle served on the U.S.S. Nevada and was onboard at Okinawa 24 March 1945, when it was hit by a Japanese Kamikaze. He was not injured but lost many comrades. A couple years after the War I asked my Uncle about the Kamikaze attack on his Ship. He began to tell me, then stopped. It was the only time I ever saw tears in my Uncles eyes. I never brought the subject up again. My Father was a pilot with a 8th USAF support wing in England. He passed away in 1950 due to injuries he received in a Aircraft accident in 1945. I was 13 at the time and my Uncle then took on the job of raising me and his own family. My other Uncle was a SeaBee
and spent the entire War at Pearl Harbor working on Navy Ships. My Step Uncle was on a Destroyer during WWII.

Mine was in Navy from 43-46, served in a PBY catalina and was over Okinawa during invasion.
I found his ship, the USS Norton Sound AVM- 1, serving from 43 - 86 a sea plane tender.
Pop never talked much about it.
