Got to do this a couple times in boot back in '63. Actually hit the the old Sherman tank target at 100yds.

Anyway here's a little tutorial video about this for y'all. About 16 minutes long.

Didn't know they still had them in 63. I fired a M79 into a trench in Vietnam and all sorts of packs and stuff flew into the air. Free fire zone and no one was supposed to be there. There were only three of us and we exited quickly stage left.

Yep. The USMC holds onto stuff until it rots. We were still eating C-Rats in '66 that were dated 1947.

Been there done that. Army C rats marked 1944 in 1965. Little packs of cigarettes. Olive drab color Luckies, Pall malls, ect.
Light one of those dried out things and the fire didn't go out. Inhale at your own risk.
I've seen fights over "beans and weenies".

Yep. Those and canned peaches or fruit salad. Were excellent trade goods with the locals.

I am quit e familiar with that one as well. The M79 fired the same round I believe.
We called it the "Thumper".

Similar rounds to the M79. Recoil was not kind to the airframe.
Thumper or Chunker, depending on who you were talking to.

You should have seen what recoil looked like when we mounted a 20 MM cannon on a Huey.
