Miss T has some. Fiona keeps running in to check on them, it's funny.

Tina put the eggs in the incubator, when they started peeping, Fiona lost her mind. As Tina pulled the chicks out one by one, Fiona watched each go into the brooder.
She runs in every time they get active to watch.

When you said Chicks I thought..............Oh never you mind what I thought.
Anyway I did that once and they turned out to be all roosters and their crowing early
every morning drove me nuts. Never again.
They were good eating though.

They will all go into the coop, and it's down at the edge of the pasture. Yup, there are uses for roosters. Rotate out old birds, give a few to my daughter, and of course, baked, boiled, fried.

They had a bunch at the local Tractor Supply store when I stopped in last week.
They sure were chirping up a storm!

The wife and G'daughter was in the local Tractor Supply a few days ago, bought 6 pullets and several Bantams with feathered feet. Some have what looks like a cotton ball on top of their heads. I don't know what purpose the Bantams serve, except the G'daughter liked them. We like fresh eggs and the 6 pullets will keep us amply supplied.

Tina was in tractor supply today. They had a tub full of leghorn chicks. Not selling. Tina told hem it's because they were wellsummers, and brown. Leghorn chicks are yellow.
Huh? Said the girl, They were labeled leghorns.
Tina took six, and the girl told her to take as many as she wanted, half off. They ain't selling.
No, I have to isolate them for 30 days, hatchery chicks are supposed to be vacinated. They use a live virus. Put them in an unvacinated flock they can infect them, and wipe out flock.
Huh? Said the girl. She just rings stuff up.
The gal at the register in VA was a 4h kid, all in it.
Big difference.
You asked her a question, you got more than, try aisle three.

With all the serious stuff going on today, I thought I'd share the pic I took a day or so ago. Miss Fiona on Guard Duty with her babies.

The next morning Miss Tina moved them out to the Chicken Coop, into a wire brooder. When they are old enough to stink, they go outside,
The coop is a couple hundred yards from the house, just inside the pasture gate. There are both power and water there. But, it's far enough away we don't hear the clucking, but can hear if the roosters sound the alarm.

Fiona was not happy when she couldn't duck in the laundry room and watch the babies. Mom got a half dozen chicks from Tractor Supply, but those went outside in her Shop in isolation... Fiona wasn't thrilled with that either. Pout face for an hour. She does tag along when mom goes out to feed and water the new kids.

This is a dangerous time of the year for me. My wife keeps hinting about chickens and I keep telling her that per usual she will get involved in an animal project that will very quickly become my responsibility. Think horses here

. In the last couple of years we lost both our cat and dog and she’s lonely to the point she now talks to the deer and songbirds.
I have to keep her out of the feed store for a few weeks.

I hear you. Carol's last cat died and there were a lot of tears and she swore she would never get another cat and go through that again, so two weeks later she adopted this feral cat from hell. It's been three years now and it's just starting to be tame.

I have a female feral cat that I've been feeding for several years now and she's only recently started allowing me to pet her a little bit while she's eating. Trapped her to get her fixed and boy was she mad about that. She had a litter of three and I was able to tame two of them to the point of being adoptable, the male that stayed is mostly gone but shows up occasionally for a meal or two and then is off being a tomcat. He disappeared for almost a month recently, thought he was probably dead but then he showed up and stayed around for a couple of days. Either someone else is also feeding him or he's a good hunter. He has becomed friendly enough to enjoy some pets but definitely does not want to be picked up.

At my Tractor Supply store, the cages were all empty, however, I picked up a Browning Tee shirt of very good quality for only $15 and the April 2021 issue of True West magazine with Tom Selleck on the cover. Lots of interesting articles, especially about "Quigley's" Shiloh Sharps incredible rifle and the making of the movie. The magazine is well worth the $5.99 cover price as it had 128 pages.
Since I have made my own file of "Cowboys and their Horses" I was pleased to find out that Selleck bonded with his horse "Spike" in the movie that the production company gave him the horse upon completion of the movie. You can also see Spike in Last Stand at Saber River. So, I added Selleck and Spike to my list.
