Amazon Spam Call

this morning while grocery shopping at the Kroger (an exceptionally nice store) in Willis, TX my wife received a call on her cell phone .... after a few seconds she handed the phone to me .... the lady on the other end of the call said she worked for Amazon and was calling to confirm that I had just placed a $500 order .... she had a heavy foreign accent, one I couldn't pin down as to where it was from .... I told her no, that I hadn't placed the order .... I asked her where the order was place from and she gave me the name of an African country .... she said the order was for an Iphone and Nike shoes .... I told her again that I hadn't placed the order .... she then said she needed some info so as to be able to take the order off of our account .... I was uneasy and told her I thanked her for her time but I would call Amazon directly to take care of things ... that kicked her pitch into high gear which made be pretty sure it was a spam call .... after I repeated I was going to call Amazon directly, she hung up .... as you have probably guessed. when I called Amazon I was told that there had been no such attempted purchase .... as I've said many times, sometimes it pays to be paranoid

There's several of those Amazon scams in the wild. I get one at least once a week.

If the number isn't in my contact list, I don't answer it. If it's important, they can leave a voicemail. Then I block it.
If I had a hundred bucks for every block I've made I could start my own phone co.

I've had some emails like that but to my yahoo account and Amazon has my pop mail account, I don't respond and wouldn't even if it was my pop account. I'll log onto my Amazon and check current orders just to be sure there are no unauthorized current orders.

I've started getting texts telling me stuff like due to the co-vid all my credit card debt has been cancelled or I've won a new car or 3-$6000 prizes, just have to go to the web page link. I just delete and block the # although that's pretty useless as the # is probably spoofed.

I wonder if Dante has a special zip code for people like this.

I get them too. Sometimes "Amazon" will even show up on the Caller ID. About 99% of them are Scams. You will know a real one if you ever get one. Besides the accent and other tell-tale signs, the sure way of knowing is whenever they ask for "info".

But check your Amazon Acct as mentioned anytime in doubt.

Bought a Roku from Amazon and got scammed when trying to register it for Amazon prime. Caught it before it got to far down the road. Called Amazon and told them about it but they just act like its an everyday occurrence and didn’t seem to be to concerned

I have several policies I follow when I get calls about any account or questionable transaction:
1. Never use a link in an email. Just about 100% are scammers.
2. Go directly to the account in question (Bank, Credit Card, Shopping account etc.)
3. Never provide any information to someone who called me. Like JEB always contact the company yourself.

My wife has gotten several calls about a large questionable charge on her Amazon account. One problem - she doesn't have one. All purchases on Amazon are done by me.
