effective about an hour ago we have a new grandchild, our 5th .... our daughter is our oldest child .... she's never married and almost 4 years ago she became a foster parent to a 17 month old boy .... Landen just turned 5, the pictures below were taken a few months ago when he caught his first fish at a pond belonging to one of our sons .... rules and regs prevented posting any pictures or much in the way of info about him until the adoption was complete .... he got off to a rough start in life and is now doing well ....

Good job Jim. Little kids need family.
I adopted one, fostered one, got one in marriage, and have two of my own.
They need roots and then they need wings.👍

our daughter is the person who deserves the thanks .... my wife and I have been along for the ups and downs over the last 3+ years but she's the one who has made things work .... as a side note, we have been blessed by the support of many folks during this process .... our sons and their families have been great .... our extended family from NC to SD have been great .... part of the adoption process required our daughter to draw up her will and name someone to take care of Landen if should something should happen to her .... in the end she named our youngest son and his wife .... for us, the really good thing is she had several supportive couples to pick from ....

UPDATE :

last night Landen played in his first T-ball game .... at our daughter's request I've been working with him since we got home about 3 weeks ago .... he's come a long way .... I wish I had a video of his second time at bat but the first picture below gives a pretty good account .... those who know T-ball will understand .... he's been drilled on keeping his eye on the ball and seeing the bat hit it .... the fact you can only see the end of his blue bat shows he is holding it parallel to the ground and his eyes are concentrated on the ball .... the resulting hit was a line drive that landed in left-center field .... :D
