Wish you the best. Not been there with a pup but have been with one at or towards the end of their life. Tough on the animal and the man.

Glad you’re getting the problem worked out. Tugs at your heart as well as your checkbook. We lost our dog last fall and are on a list for a new pup. Can’t wait. Best to you and to the little girl.

We had a Brittany pup that was my ten year old sons, that got Parvo. In those days they thought that was a death sentence.
I took him to this old black vet that I knew. That guy was a genius with animals. He said he'd do what he could and kept the pup
at his office. Pretty sad day. A week later he called and said the pup seemed to be cured but refused to eat. I said he's lonesome
for my son so I took him over to see his pup. He picked the pup up and it started crying in his ear. The Doc said, "I see, I see."
We got some canned food and gave him some on my son's finger and he ate it right up. He lived to be seventeen.
I asked the Doc what I owed him and he said I couldn't afford that bill, but he was going to write a paper on the cure, so it was free.

Wow. I hope the dog makes it. I know they make insurance for pets. That must be why.

Hope your pup has a full recovery. Been there before with the dog we had before Buster. At age 12 he developed pancreitus, spelling not right, and he was in intensive care for 5 days with IV's. He pulled thru and lived to be 16 yrs. Cost was $3400 bucks but we didn't care we had to try and save him.

That Prednizone is great medicine and he should be up and running soon. I had a medical issue and felt like a 20 yr. old again while on it...nothing hurt!

Good on you PJM, many won't go the extra mile for their pups. I rescued a German Short hair 11 months ago. She had a broken left elbow and her teeth knocked out. Three months later, I had to take her to the dentist for a root canal and three root extractions the vet missed that were infected. Who knew you could have a K-9 root canal? I do now, 1,200 buck later, but well worth it.

Stand by your pup, they will stand by you !

Having been through tough times with pets (family) I can relate and know that your perseverance will be rewarded by the continued presence and joy of sharing life with your pup. Absolutely worth every penny.

After the losses we had taken, we were Never going to get another dog. But, after an empty house, we drove three hours into the VA mountains to pick up Princess Fiona, a west highland terrier.

She got ill right after we got her home, and the vet said it came from the breeder. She had salmonella, giardia, and pinworms. She was very ill, and at the vet's office for more than a week. She went over the baby carefully, and said she would also have to have her surgeon rebuild her back leg. The "knee" was bad and popped out with slight pressure. $3500 later, she was cured, and can get around fine. She has more personality than half the people we know, but already has arthritis.

She's a happy spoiled girl, and we don't regret a penny. (The vet reported the breeder, our vet was mad as a hornet...). She told Miss T that her cohort in the mountains had "handled" it.

I'm sorry you and your dog had to go thru it. They are family members. Hope there is a speedy revovery.

Our last dog was a 95 lb. black lab female that we rescued. She was gun shy and someone dumped her
at the SPCA. She was half grown and it took several washings to get the terrible kennel smell off her.
She was 95 lbs. of love and affection. It broke our hearts the day we had to put her down and I don't
want to go through that ever again, but I miss her. We had her for seventeen years and she traveled
the country with us in our motorhome.

I love ALL animals and breeds of dogs. I wish more humans had the temperment of labs though. They definitely fit the bill of ' Mans Best Friend '.
Many, many years ago we had one. At only two years old, ' Spanky ' was tragically hit by a car and we ended up having to put him down.

I have a pet cemetery in the woods on the hill behind my shop. Several friends who have lost pets
have brought them here to be buried. I have spent more than one night with my tractor lights
illuminating friends sobbing as they buried their pet.
I have two of my own up there.
It's a nice spot overlooking the lake and the yard.

Praying for your pup. We are going through a very similar thing with our boy right now, with a less hopeful prognosis.

The vets have told us he is having issues with his liver, but can’t figure out what the cause is. Starting yesterday, he has been having trouble getting up.

One sweet guy! Is his temp high? 101 to 101.5 is normal range they tell me. We are learning there are many "Ideopathic" (unknown cause) diseases in the animal world. In our case we have 3-4 vets look at her and 3 of them had not seen a case of strangles ever. Rarer in older dogs. If you see sores starting at the muzzle that is the sign. Did blood work show an increase in white count? I noticed snow. Are you in the wooded regions of NC? There are so many tick born diseases out there, they are losing count. We have a real problem in the Northeast. The symptoms can take a while to progress. Did they put him on steroids or any meds for infection? Wishing him well soon.

Ernie was up to 103.5. He’s back down to about 101 now. We’ve been to the normal vet and 2 emergency (higher level of care) vets with him.
We haven’t seen any sores around his mouth, but he did have an infected tooth that should be better now that he’s been REI evening two antibiotics.

He’s had only slight increases in WBC, but has some out of range liver enzymes and elevated bilirubin.

The pics were taken over Christmas. We have a cabin up in the mountains and had a beautiful white Christmas this year. We do have a wooded lot in Raleigh. Hadn’t thought of tick-borne illnesses. He does get flea and tick meds.

Man she sure is growing, I would have thought she was one of your other dogs. I can just hear your yellow lab saying, “good grief!”

So sorry to hear PJM. Pets are our family too! I know it was expensive but what can you do? Hope all is better now.
