Numbers are out for Jan 2021. Huge jump. Over 2 million firearms sold (NSSF adjusted figure).

There has to be some serious stockpiles of ammo out there with gun sales still going strong.

There are, although that likely varies a lot by State/Region. I wonder how many of those 2million guns were bought by first timers? I'd guess about 50% going by previous expert WAG's. I have noticed that right here there seems to be more than the usual number of Henry buyers over the last month or 2. Too bad we don't have access to actual company sales records.

Hasn’t this been the case for 8 of the last 12 years?

Yes, but for the last 10 months sales have shown a significant increase just about every month. Supply seems to be the limiting factor (guns and ammo) at least for the next few months. Distributor inventory is starving for more of everything.

If supply could keep ahead of demand, sales would blow the doors off the records.

I think the govt is nervous. They're building a fence around the US Capitol Building right now.
Personally I think they're paranoid. Americans don't act that way unless severely threatened.
I think after the riots last Summer folks are just plain scared for their families.

If the legit manufacturers/retailers can't meet the demand, desperate people will go elsewhere for guns and ammo. No questions will be asked or answered, and there won't be any records of those sales.

You're right. Lots of sales never make paper. Happens everyday.

I think I have mentioned this here before but in 2020 my stepson bought two shotguns and a Glock 9mm. First guns this mid 40’s guy has ever owned. Fortunately he has shot with me several times so he has some basic knowledge. Unfortunately he bought a Kel Tec KSG which is way too complicated for a rookie. I was trying to help him via FaceTime but never having held one myself I wasn’t much help. Fortunately the other shotgun he bought is a basic pump home defense type so I strongly suggested he use that one. He’s middle of the road politically but the family he married into (they all live nearby) are very liberal and major anti-gun folks. As the summer LA riots got within about a mile of their home his wife decided that having a home defense firearm was a good idea. So add them to the totals of folks who are first time gun buyers.

Lot of that - what's the word? - oh, yeah; Epiphany, going around.
