Good Evening...does anyone know off hand the protocol or laws when shipping within the u.s. I wanted to send 4 one pound unopened bottles of powder to my brother. CA to UT. I went to my local ups store and they told me I'd need to the ups hub. She also said there would be hazmat fees somewhat ridicules packaging requirements. I never did find out what those were. Any advice or suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks!

with the complexity of laws covering shipping gun powder, you may be well ahead to hand deliver it ....

Id ask your brother to meet you halfway. The shipping of powder and primers isn’t something you want to do. Hazmat fees will apply and anymore there outrageous

Yes there are "some" extra fees (hazmat) when shipping powder and primers.
As Jim said it may better to FTF that transaction.

Sounds like you need a mule. Got any trustworthy trucker friends that make that run and would be willing to deliver it FTF? This is where connections count.

Individuals are not permitted to ship primers or powder unless they have Hazmat Certification and pay the associated HazMat fee.

We can, however, ship small arms cartridges. I've done that, but I could only ship them from a UPS Customer Center, the package had to be signed for by the receiver, and the package had to have an ORM-D label.

As CT said, you will most likely need a hazmat cert to ship powder.

30 years ago i worked for a sporting goods wholesaler and we shipped powder daily. Even back then the requirements regarding packaging and labeling were very strict. I can only imagine what the requirements are today. We only shipped to FFL stores never to consumers.

If that applied to individuals not using paid transportation (shipping), then you wouldn't be able to throw some gunpowder and primers, or ammo, in your car and deliver them to your cousin in the neighboring county. We use mules (trusted friends) in MS all the time to avoid shipping costs and associated hassles. Nobody has ever been busted for it.

Absolutely no powder/:primer thru USPS . If postal inspector catches it it's a severe fine. Contact UPS/FEDEX about Hazmat. This is why I have saddle bags on the motorcycle. Washington state to Arizona is a wonderful ride

Yup! You guys are right. I would need to cert with ups. No one else will touch it from what I can find. I got wayyyy too much to lose, if you know what I mean. Well it's not like I can't use it. It's kinda weird I'm able to find reloading supplies in CA for someone in UT. Thanks for the replies
