News of the world.. The movie

Post by Oldbrass » Tue Jan 19, 2021 12:04 am

Wife and I just watched "News of the world" with Tom Hanks. We really enjoyed it. I tried to pay special attention to the firearms of the 1870 time period. Not to ruin it but what he did with that black powder double barrel was brutal, It's a good movie I recommend.

I hope they portrayed the shotgun scene more realistically than in the book, I laughed out loud when I read that section, it was so improbable. The book is just OK, the prequel Simon The Fiddler is better, and her Stormy Weather is most excellent. Not a Western as such, it takes place in the 1930s Texas oil fields.

I am a big fan of Western movies and books, and of Tom Hanks. I am looking forward to seeing it online. I won’t venture into a theatre.

John,

I was looking on Amazon Prime Video last night for something and saw it listed.

I can wait a while, $20 to rent, no thanks. I still have the last couple of episodes of The Expanse to watch. I hope you are staying well.

I hear you, seems ridiculous. But when we look at a season of something to watch and it’s is $20 we just try to remind ourselves that is about the cost of going to a theater. But, streamed movies should be $4.99, I agree.

We’re doing well here but like you are retired and can control where and the time of day we go out. Went to Costco the other day at the old folks time of 9:00 am and the store had maybe 5% the normal traffic.
