Had to sell my 30-06

On advice of my spinal surgeon I sold my Remington 30-06 bolt gun and made a few pennies
. Said the hardware in my neck is very tough but avoid strong recoil and I never want to go thru this again. how is the accuracy with the 243 Single shot youth model (I have short arms). That should make a handy light recoil deer slayer and I already have reload dies for my brothers 243.

understood on having to avoid excessive recoil .... 243 is a very capable deer caliber and in the rifles I've shot it, recoil isn't bad .... some of the fellows with single shots should be able to provide you with better info

Recoil will be less, but very loud in a short barrel. I bought a Rem. Model 7 in 243, for my then wife. Good shooter, but really loud.
Might want to try before buy.

I had a 243 in a Ruger No1 standard which I loved. I finally sold it to my buddy because he really wanted it.
The recoil was light and the accuracy was fantastic with hand loaded ammo. I could put three shots in a dime
at a hundred yards all day long.
The problem was that although every deer I shot dropped in it's tracks, the bullet would fragment and ruin a lot of meat.
I replaced it with a Ruger No1 light sporter in 7MM Mauser. Slower but heavier bullet. It doesn't fragment.
It was a great varmint rifle though.

Buffalo Bore makes a bullet for your 243 that they claim will not breakup and fragment in the animal.

Well, it's too late as my good friend has it now.
I was using a Sierra boat tailed 100 grain spitzer with it as it was. Too much velocity.

I know you said you have the dies for the 243 but if you want a light recoiling round may I suggest a 38-55. Big punch with low recoil. Do a search online you will see one of the lowest recoiling rounds there is. No there isnt one in a single shot but there is in a lever

Nosler offers a 100 gr Partition Spitzer that I've seen used with remarkable results on deer .... they also make a 90 g E-tip (solid copper) bullet .... both can be loaded to almost 4,000 fps and don't explode on contact
