I'm another one who has never had a social media account and never will. These so-called services only exist to collect personal data for profit. There are other, better ways to stay in touch with family and friends.

I have not got on the bandwagon either. But, would this be considered social media? It is a media, and we are pretty social, minus political and religious discussions, which can get heated.

I got on F'book years ago to stay in touch with my Son and his family and the things the grandkids were doing plus a group of my hot rod friends and other distant family members. Now most of them are planning to leave it also because of the political views.
Several gun groups over at MeWe too and got on to a revolver and lever rifle group.

GFK, the members here are anonymous unless they choose not to be. The forum doesn't collect personal data of any kind for any purpose, much less for profit. I don't consider it to be a social media platform; but you are right. This is a communication medium and we are a friendly society -- thankfully.

Facebook is the worst for tracking people. They tract not just what you post but also your location, heart rate, purchases, and about everything else about you. This site can give you access without placing a cookie in your computer.
To log into My VA Health website I had to do so with my Facebook account when I had it. I no longer have it and now when I log into My VA Health I only have limited access.

That is interesting. Yes, some people view FB as the great be all to end all. As pointed out, how do you become a billionaire and not charge member a fee?
Just to be clear, I was not claiming that this forum was gathering any data. Ask a joke, just stated, could this be considered social media. From what I have gather, most do. But, it is pretty enjoyable. So, I hangout, from time to time. Some times, more times than other. Yet, it is all good.

I like Zuckerburg about as much as I like Gates. Not to mention the idiot that runs Twitter.

Check out the last 007 movie "SPECTRE"....so close to the truth it's frightening. A global organization spying on everyone, everywhere and manipulating gov'ts. Fiction huh?
I am not on any social networks, and one day soon the cell phone is gone forever too. Wife has never had a cell phone. Land line in the house, and the wife's PC which I am on right now. That's it.

No facebook, twitter or instagram here. Thought about tic-tok but I can’t dance a lick to that’s out.
I’m perfectly happy to use this site and a local gun site to socialize via internet.

Re: Starting off 2021 on a firm Right foot.........
We had a Facebook account for our Veteran's Charity, I had my page, the Charity was a sub account off that. Miss T was signed up to stay connected with the kids, in four cities in three states. When we joined, you could control who you allowed to see your page, and when you friended someone, you could control which of their info you saw. (I always checked only photos and important updates) I never cared about Candy Crush scores and if you labeled your post about what you had for lunch important, I unfriended you for being too dumb to know the definition of "important."
Then Facebook decided people like me weren't seeing enough content, so they took away that control. Not only could I not limit incoming updates from "friends" but when I friended someone, I began seeing posts from their friends. I was flooded with pictures of vegan lunches and Candy Crush accomplishments from friends of my three daughter's friends.
out of dozens of new posts each time I logged on, I waded through them all to find ten percent mattered to me.
We had passed control of the Charity to a new leadership team. I decided to delete my membership. I discovered I couldn't delete my membership. I could deactivate it, but not delete it. (I guess facebooks membership numbers never drop, but if you ask about Active memberships?)
I sent all my contacts a short note telling them were were gone. Use our emails. Never been back. Never twittered, just won't take that leap.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Wonder how long firearm discussion sites will be allowed.

I opened a Parler account. Unavailable right now. Dumping F book and google. Trying to use the media for information and news. Plus contact with friends and family.
Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.
