Money Talk 2021
The Dow started off at a record high today and then dropped fast. As I type this it’s down more than 2%.
I don’t own Dow stock but check it for the news. I can tell the state of the world in three sentences about it being up or down. I have my own global predictions on 2021 and think it will be reflected in the stock market.
Please feel free to post anything about money and finances just don’t go political.

I own 3 funds, and part invest in Dow companies. To me, finance reflects the state of the society and the world. If people are confident, spending up. If people are scared , spending is down. Due to some uncertainties in our society and the world, some people are scared. To me, that is a good time to buy. Unless our society collapse, things should rise again. If things do collapse, we are in trouble.
I think my post is not debating world's events. If not, please forgive me.

Your post was no more about world events than mine but more importantly neither of our posts are argumentative.GFK wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 2:02 pmI own 3 funds, and part invest in Dow companies. Re: Money Talk 2021
I don't get antsy over the daily stock reports. As long as I get the dividend reinvested I'm okay. Overall I've done fairly well just letting it ride. One of these days I'll sell and owe a S##% load of tax. Just checked mine and at 1:18 CST my stocks are down less than 1/2% or a bit over $500. I'll not sweat that too much. I remember last October when things went to hell it didn't take long for it to rebound.

I normally don’t either but I’m at the age where I’m required to sell my IRA. I need to be completely out of it by 2032 and must sell a minimum each year.Shakey Jake wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 2:14 pmI don't get antsy over the daily stock reports. That may buy lunch at McDonald's or Burger King. It may also buy a cold beer at a bar. I think that I would choose the beer though.RanchRoper wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 2:46 pmFound a $5 bill on the floor in my truck on the weekend. Jackpot!

I am 4 years from retiring a 2nd time. My 401 and IRAs have been very good to me the last few years and I pray that we don't see a crash. I still invest aggressively and am constantly told to shift to more bonds. Maybe I better start listening.

I think I lost one up there last week. If it had Lincoln's picture on it it might be mine.RanchRoper wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 2:46 pmFound a $5 bill on the floor in my truck on the weekend. Jackpot!

I stopped contributing in 2003 when I retired so mine isn’t all that much. Maybe enough to buy a pound of power and 500 primers.Retiredguns wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 4:04 pmI am 4 years from retiring a 2nd time. Mine investments aren't in IRA's. I own stock and REF's. I lost about $700 today and that's okay. I have $200 per month going into stocks. I've been doing this for few years.

Re: Money Talk 2021
Hey, sounds like a good idea. I own some McDonalds stock, a little more than 50 shares. I'm on the dividend reinvestment program so pays for stock shares every quarter rather than getting a dividend check. I own all my stock this way. Started buying MCD when my kids were young. I figured if I had to take them there to eat I might just as well own some.GFK wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 3:07 pmThat may buy lunch at McDonald's or Burger King. It may also buy a cold beer at a bar. Re: Money Talk 2021
McDonald's and Burger King have dollar menus. So, $5 may be good for a snack. But, I got 2 ice beers yesterday for $4.50 each. Yes, I could get a six pack. But, I had to have something to wash down my lunch. Beer seems to help food go down smoother. They go down smooth, even without food.

Re: Money Talk 2021
Oh, well I guess that wasn't the one I lost then.
Re: Money Talk 2021
I'm confused by the above statement. I was under the impression that there is no requirement to be completely out of your IRA by a certain age/time. I do realize that the rules of Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) will impact the principle over time and the balance may diminish so it makes sense to manage it differently.Sir Henry wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 2:40 pmI normally don’t either but I’m at the age where I’m required to sell my IRA. So if I found a $5 on the floor of my truck I'd have to turn it over to my wife.

Re: Money Talk 2021
I started out putting about $25 aside, every month. After awhile, I was able to put aside few hundred a month. Got divorced and married again, that putting aside went down again. Over the years, I learned that it is more important to put something aside, instead of nothing. Life has its storms. But if one can persevere and continue to save, it can lead to a bright day.Shakey Jake wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 5:48 pmMine investments aren't in IRA's. I own stock and REF's. I also try to save for different things: retirement, emergency fund, vacations, gifts, children and grandchildren education and just because (I might see a nice firearm). So even if a storm does come my way, it will not mess up the whole day. Through it all, I still put God first. Therefore, I put money aside to serve for the Kingdom as well.
