Yesterday I took my wife and rode up to Mt. Davis in PA. It is the high point in Pa. It was 10-15 degrees cooler than at our home and felt pretty nice. It was a windy day there as usual at any time I have been there. I did take a few pictures while there I can post for members.

A shot of the area on the way up. The air was pretty clear.

My wife up on the look out tower.

My wife at a nice road side picnic area. We are going up there to have a picnic this summer. Lots of tables and well cared for.

The breast of the dam on the Youghiogheny River.

Trout fishing at the out flow from the dam to the Youghiogheny River. A lot of rafting done from just below here to Ohiopyle, Pa.

Beautiful pics of Mt. Davis vistas, especially the one "on the way up."
Interesting river name; I'd like to hear it pronounced correctly....not my version!!

That looks like a really nice spot. It's always nice to be in the hills or the mountains in summer.

I like to fly fish, but that area is a little crowded. Of course, that may be because it is a very productive area.
Looks like you had a beautiful day with those sunny, blue skies.
Thanks for sharing the pics.

Youghiogheny River
The pronunciation is Yock-a-gay'-nee. It is a Algonquian word meaning "contrary stream". This name is something about the only river in western Md. to not flow south to the Potomac which ends up in the Chesapeake Bay waters. The Yough is west of the Eastern Continental Divide and the water from it goes eventually to the Mississippi River. The Yough empties into the Monongahela River and then the Monongahela meets the Ohio and the Allegheny River at Pittsburgh. That is how the baseball park at Pittsburgh got its name "Three Rivers Stadium". Then on to the "Mighty Mississippi River" and to the gulf. The much visited town down stream on the Yough River is Ohiopyle and is a very beautiful area with waterfalls in town. Its name means "white froth upon the water". The spelling is slightly different than original way. Any one in the area for a visit needs to stop at Ohiopyle. We are going for a day there next week and I will post some pictures. Here is two pictures from the top of the tower on Sunday at Mt. Davis.

I never would have figured that "Yough" would be pronounced "Yock."
Also enjoyed the "ebb and flow" of your river stories....thanks for the mini geog/history lesson!
Looking forward to the photos of Ohiopyle.
