Picked up new phone today....

and hope it's my last....man what an ordeal!
My old 3g Verizon flip phone was at it's end due to the switch to all 4g LE signal so I made an appointment for today at the local Verizon store
for a new phone. I get there at 11:00 AM as scheduled only to have to wait in line outside or in the car as they were running behind.

After 20 minutes I get in and the Galaxy A01 phone they had on working display that I liked was out of stock. The salesperson tells me I can go across the street to Best Buy as they have it in stock and then bring back here to get it setup for my same number as prepaid phone.
So I do that and get back to wait in line for couple minutes as the salesperson informs me that I got the right model phone but it was a T Mobile and needed to be a Verizon prepaid Galaxy A01.
Run back over and swap it out for a cost of 79.95 which is cheaper than Verizon sells it for and come back to wait in line again in the cold wind.
20 minutes later I get in the store for the third time and then it takes a hour for the guy to get it on my account due to trouble with the system.
Finally at 1:30 PM I get out the door with a new working phone.
When this one is obsolete I will just go with a CB radio in my truck with base unit at home!!!

I noticed while buying phone in Best Buy they keep the phones in what looks like a row of steel doored vaults with 2 key locks on the doors!
She had one key that worked but the other didn't so had to wait for that to get figured out!

Seems like nobody really knows what they're' doing anymore.
Had to call the Toyota dealer today where I bought my new 4-Runner. I am on my second temporary tag while waiting on my title, tag and registration.
I bought it in South Carolina and reside in North Carolina. Said they sent the paperwork to NC and it was regected because someone forgot to sign a paper at their end. No fault of mine. They are now sending me a third temp tag till they get it all figured out!.... :? . There, that's my rant.
Sorry for your problems Forty. Good luck with your new phone!

I feel your pain on the phone and that is why I deal with tracfone for my mobile phone service. If I buy a new phone for their service, I can do all the switching over myself on their website and not having to wait for one of their associates to do it for me. Have done it twice now and no issues so far.

Sounds like my buddy up the street who got a 1974 VW Bug back on the road after a restoration. Due to Covid you have to schedule an appointment for DMV for any business. His was almost a month out so he made up his own temp plate with his name on it and drove around with that for a while!!

Oh and Verizon gave me 10 bucks off the monthly use bill for being a loyal customer waiting in the cold outside!

I like tracfone for their service. I only pay for what I use. No monthly fee for service, I buy the prepaid minutes, data and if I dont use them up, they roll over to be used at a later date. $19.99 per 90 days (3 months) is a whole lot better than other plans with other carriers!

Sure can't beat that price if it does everything you want it to.

I decided to jump on the Craftsman tool chest idea of Ernie and Sir Henry and others. As Ernie said in his post Lowes has a sale on them right now so I foolishly ordered mine online for customer pickup. I did this about 4-5 hours ago and I still haven’t received an email to let me know they are ready for pickup. I could have driven to Lowes and back three times by now. What was I thinking? :(

As Howard Clark (radio consumer advocate talk show host from many years ago) used to say, “Customer No-Service, not customer service”

It definitely does as I dont live on my mobile phone by browsing the web and everything else. I use my laptop for browsing the web, I use my mobile phone only for phone calls and text messages only, which it was meant for! I dont have a need to be "connected" 24/7! ;)

I guess I'm the oddball here. I very much and adopter of the high-tech communication cellular brings. I worked most of my career within the cellular industry and would be lost without my iPhone and all it can do. Although most of my friends (70+), are happy with voice and maybe some text, that won't cut it for me. My wife is also a very savvy user and would be lost without her iPhone.

Two years ago we left our carrier AT&T (my former employer), as their pricing was getting too much for us. We switched to T-Mobile and couldn't be happier. Domestically we have unlimited text, talk and data (and that includes most of Canada and Mexico) as well as international text and data. The international text and data was important to us because we like to travel. Next year we have 3 international trips planned and trying to drive without a GPS is impossible.

Maybe you didnt know this dont know. But I will never darken the doors of a Verizon store again. Best Buy for phones is the only way to go. In and out and they will do all of the phone set up for you if you have old pictures and things you want in youre new phone. They handle all of the providers and can set you up with any of the one of them. Our Verizon store here is just a mess all of the time.

Most all my picture taking and online time when off my main home computer I do with my ipad. My old flip phone came about right after I bought my range property in the country and found my then Consumer Cellular phone would not get a signal there. Go a mile or so towards home and it would work.
Verizon just had a better network to cover that area so that's when I picked the flip phone. My old CC phone was a rider on my wife's plan.
Was happy with the need the flip phone was doing with a 15 buck a month plan until of course the 3G signal was going to end first of next year.

Took my old Motorola phone Consumer Cell phone down to the Verizon store hoping it would work with the new Verizon signal but it would not so a
new phone was needed. I'm old school and use my phone mostly as a phone but this one will let me do a few other things if I need to.

While at Best Buy I couldn't believe how much they ask for the latest 5G smartphones

I agree these 5G phones are pricey. Fortunately I have an inside track for Apply products. My son works for them and I can get stuff with his discount. Otherwise I might have to go a different direction. :o

My 7+ iPhone is like a computer. Matter of fact right now it’s my only online computer.

Agreed been that way for a while. I have a 10XR I phone. But all the newer phones now have gone to 5G. When all the new models that are released come out there always to much money in my opinion. I dont get a new one until the one I have flat quits.

I made the same move back on Nov 20th .... I probably could have saved some money by buying one like you did but didn't think of it at the time .... it seems to be a solid phone .... hopefully it won't become obsolete any time soon

Ooops, my bad. I misquoted the price I am paying for my mobile phone service. I pay $19.99 per 90 days/3 months. Any minutes or texts that I do not use within that time period rolls over into the next time period.
