S&w model 10

Yep another gun on the want list. S&W model 10-8. Figured I'd find hundreds of budget police trade-in on the web but seems I'm a few years late to the party. I find them $500-700 range but DANG they made train loads of these, I see S&W makes a reproduction with a lockout but it's not the same. What you all think, will the prices drop after the mayhem?

Look for the model 64. Same basic gun, just stainless. I carried one on duty until we transitioned to semiautos, and bought mine. I had been shooting it in PPC service revolver class for years, and done well. You might find some of these.

Put in a search on the 64, and this popped up. NOT a steal, but the reason I shared it... I'm halfway across the country now, and this ^^^^^^ was my first PD. Worked as a dispatcher here for five years, before moving up thru the county. Nearly fifteen years in county service before moving to the state level.

That sure is a nice looking revolver. Very fancy looking. Not a bad price for what it is.

Oldbrass, keep looking. A couple of months ago, I was in a Gander store and they had several used model 10's and Ruger stainless .357s. They were not too expensive if I recall correctly. Keep looking, they are out there. Good luck in the search.

Here’s one currently for sale on our local guntrader site but it’s $600 like you have been seeing. It’s pretty nice but $200 too expensive. There’s another one on there that’s a old M&P with the pencil bbl and I think it’s around $475. Good luck with your search but I don’t think prices will ever go back to “normal”. Including ammo and components. Ugh.

We had one of the current Model 10s, via the S&W Classic series. Yeah, it had the lock, but I'm no S&W collector and have never had a single problem with the lock on any S&W I've had. That 10 shot very well and I used it to help a couple of my friends to learn the basics of shooting. Very easy gun to shoot.

I agree, I lost count of the number of folks that I taught on the 64, and who tried, and failed, to buy it. They didn't want one like it, they wanted that one.

I have a later model with the lock. I got it very lightly used for well under $400 a few years ago. It shoots very well, but the trigger was rather gritty. I had a trigger job done on it by a local gunsmith, and the trigger is extremely smooth and consistent, although it feels a little TOO light. Pull gauge says 3 1/2 lbs. My finger says 1 1/2 to 2.

I only have two issues with it now. I wish it were a model 19 with the larger rear sight. The forcing cone is rather rough and I have issues with leading in the forcing cone if I try and shoot naked cast bullets. It does fine with coated or plated.

Thanx for the tip, I contacted him unfortunately he doesn't ship and no more cash & carry with conceal permit due to the ridiculous 10 day waiting period.
