we are spending the summer in our camper in my wife's home town of Estelline, SD .... last night the weather got pretty rough out at Lake Poinsett http://gfp.sd.gov/state-parks/directory/lake-poinsett/ last night .... news coverage of Damage, Injuries During Storm At Lake Poinsett http://origin-www.keloland.com/news/art ... e-poinsett .... Lake Poinsett is located about 12 miles west of town, from there the storm moved less than a mile south of our location .... we just got back from the lake were we took the following pictures .... the last picture shows a camper owned by a family friend, it was blown off of it's stabilizing jacks, no serious damage .... I couldn't help but note that in the middle of the line of overturned campers, an old Sunnybrook was still standing .... we have learned that over 2.5" of rain came down during the the storm ....

That is terrible. Straight line winds or tornado?

Glad you and your wife are safe. That must have been pretty nerve racking.

haven't heard a final determination .... reports from TV coverage mentioned 2 different tornadoes being in the area .... 1 specifically was reported to be in the Lake Poinsett area .... when the storm passed just south of us it had heavy rain, steady/hard lightening and thunder but almost no wind .... the lack of wind made the locals nervous

when we received reports of the damage at the lake and knew from the radar that the storm was headed in our direction, we drove 3 blocks to one of her brother's home .... the wives went directly to the basement and we wandered around upstairs/on the porch keeping an eye out .... the lightening got so intense that we had to get off of the porch .... we have learned that people were in the camper shown below when it went over .... the local volunteer emergency folks had to cut them out .... just as they got them out, the rear of the camper caught fire .... scary indeed

Very glad your family is okay and safe. You got the correct word to describe the weather in many places this spring and summer --- Rough!

What a storm! I'm glad you were watching for it and took cover and that everyone's safe. Imagine being in that camper when it went over! Wow. And, then to need to be cut out of it just before it would catch fire! Thank God for the emergency crews!

indeed .... its my understanding that (as one would expect) well before things settled down, folks in the area immediately responded ....

Not fun. I grew up in Tornado country. The damage from a big one has to be seen to be believed.

I hope no one was hurt. Property damage is no fun. But things can be replaced. Lives can't!

we haven't been out there since taking the pictures .... we do understand that most of the wrecked campers have been removed and the downed trees have been cleared .... no word on those hospitalized .... over the years we've camped several times at the Lakeview CG .... it suffered major flooding a few years ago that was so bad it closed for 2 or 3 years .... the owners are regular working people who don't have unlimited funds to work with and are making a strong effort to put it back in good condition .... this time the serious damage was to some campers and not so much to the CG
