The Great Hunter

I awoke to a lot of commotion this morning. Little Girl was excited and running all over the house. It appears she caught a bird and brought it inside through her cat door and dropped it near my bed.

She told me it put up a terrible fight but in the past all the birds she has caught flew into the window.

She brought you a gift. Thank God for cats. I live off the road quite a bit and am surrounded by woods and fields and pastures. Of course we have feed around for the sheep, horses and chickens and if it wasn't for my cats in the house, we'd be overrun by mice. They sure are proud of their catch.

I have an indoor cat now, so all she gets to hunt and kill are bugs, shadows, and reflections. But I did have an outdoor cat before her who was sadly killed by a coyote and is the reason why my current cat has never felt the earth beneath her paws.
One sunny afternoon that outdoor cat came prancing across the deck toward me with her tail straight up in the air, head held high, and a small bird in her mouth. Before she got within five feet, I spoke. "What did you bring me this time?" She stopped in her tracks, opened her mouth as if to drop it, and the bird fell into flight and escaped to a nearby bush. The startled little kitty just stared with her mouth still open as it flew away to safety. I laughed out loud and cheered for the bird's good fortune.

^^^^^^^^^ That’s a great story, I can just see your cats expression.
Sadly we lost our ambidextrous (indoor/outdoor) cat to an owl last year. She would catch a mouse or mole and always brought it up to the patio to eat. She would always leave the head, tail and what I think was the stomach. Of course she also left about a 3” blood spot. This always happened at night so we couldn’t yell at her and try to change her behavior. We miss her and I’m finding more mice in my shop since she left us.
Sir Henry, that’s a pretty impressive blood trail your cat left.
