Re: Switching To DISH
We are done with Network TV. The shows are crappy, and too many adverts, re: prescription drugs, ads for Lawyers trying to sue everyone, mesothelioma etc etc. Netflix, Amazon, to start with, more to come. No ADS !!!!!

Re: Switching To DISH
FS1 @ FS2 along with more local FOX sports stations are no longer available on our service .... same old story, FOX says DISH is being unreasonable and DISH is saying the same about FOX .... bottom line, folks like us are caught in the middle .... I most certainly understand both companies wanting the best contract terms .... what upsets me is we haven't even made our first payment .... nothing in any piece of literature we have received, nothing in every voice contact with a customer representative during our process of selecting a service mentioned there being an issue .... to me that falls into a false advertising category .... right now I'm on a long hold to speak with a customer rep, the recorded messages says it is going to be a long one

Yup...AT&T is scheduled to drop our favorite local news channel today. Fighting with Sinclair Broadcasting.

Re: Switching To DISH
put the phone on speaker as I half listened to their recording apologizing for the longer than usual wait time .... an hour and a half later the call was terminated on their end .... called back and went a different route in trying to speak with a person .... was told that the wait time was over an hour .... said to call back later .... I have no doubt that they are in fact "experiencing a larger than normal call volume"

Very familiar with that routine! It's VERY aggravating. They waste your time, then dis-connect.JEBar wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 10:46 amput the phone on speaker as I half listened to their recording apologizing for the longer than usual wait time .... an hour and a half later the call was terminated on their end .... called back and went a different route in trying to speak with a person .... was told that the wait time was over an hour .... said to call back later .... Re: Switching To DISH
to give credit where its due, in the last few weeks I've made numerous calls to DISH, both home and RV divisions .... I've made it a point to ask and in every case I've spoken with someone native to this country .... that fact has impressed memarkiver54 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 10:54 amVery familiar with that routine! These contract deals happen from time to time. They'll settle it.

I hear Ya coop. They threatened this about a year ago and settled at the last minute. Hope we're lucky this time.cooperhawk wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 12:22 pmThese contract deals happen from time to time. They'll settle it.

Re: Switching To DISH
finally, after over an hour on hold, I did get through to a person .... it was easy to figure out that he lady has already had a hard day .... I didn't expect for her to be able to make any promises or to release anything that wasn't public knowledge .... my goal was to secure a promise that she would pass on my strong concern that DISH did2n't let us know while we were in the process of signing up for their service .... she assured me that our conversation was in fact being recorded and would be heard by supervisors and others in management .... I don't have any illusions that my call will make any difference but I do feel better after having my say

Re: Switching To DISH
Don't care what service anyone goes with, we're all being taken advantage of or overlooked so THEY, can pad their wallets, it's all about as much money they can squeeze from other networks and us.
I'm sure sometimes it's the provider and sometimes it's the broadcast network.
We are the pawns.

Re: Switching To DISH
Well, at least there is competition among the satellite, over the air, and cable networks. Proof of that is the contract negotiations.
We could go with just over the air, but that doesn't provide much variety. Take a look at most liberal communities and you'll not
see anything like Fox offered, although they're starting to go south as well.

Re: Switching To DISH
I have 2 50' sections of each coax shown below :
pictures 1 & 2 are of the same coax but the labeling shown from left to right is so long I had to take two pictures so I could get my camera to focus
pictures 3 & 4 are the same, I posted 2 because different parts aren't clear
I'd appreciate a translation by anyone who understands the labeling .... also, is one better to use with our portable satellite antenna than the other .... I hope to test both of them but would still appreciate evaluations from anyone who understands this stuff

I can't answer that. Test them both out.

.
18 AWG. - 18 gauge center conductor.
75C - temperature rating at which the plastic insulation starts to break down.
UL - Underwriters Laboratories (safety test lab)
CUL - Canadian Underwriters Laboratories (safety test lab)
E232510 - reference number assigned to the supplier of the cable by UL or CUL once safety testing has been completed.
CM - general use cable rating
59725ft - cables are manufactured in long runs. Each foot is marked.
2200MHz (aka 2.2GHz) and 3GHz - maximum signal bandwidth of the cable. This should match the capability of your receiver and antenna, but is ok to be higher. Lower there will be some signal loss, typically only noticeable with long cable runs.
RG6 - 75ohm impedance with double shielding.
RG6U - 75ohm impedance quad shielding, better interference immunity, but the extra shielding also lowers the signal bandwidth.

Mags...
info appreciated .... looking at "2200MHz (aka 2.2GHz) and 3GHz - maximum signal bandwidth of the cable. This should match the capability of your receiver and antenna, but is ok to be higher." ..... I've gone through the manual that came with our Carryout and can't find anything about signal bandwidth ....any clue which cable should be better for our use

From what I could find online, the G2 supposedly ships with 50' of RG6. So suggest sticking with the RG6. You won't damage anything if you want to tryout the RG6U.

Re: Switching To DISH
FIRST EQUIPMENT ISSUE :
earlier this morning I opened up our camper and setup our new CarryOut portable antenna .... my intent was to play around with various coax cables to determine which ones worked best and just how many feet of coax could be used .... a second goal was to set it up to record some movies .... beastly hot and humid .... much to my surprise, some things worked, some didn't .... when I got to the "Directory" I found it wasn't updating and still showing a screen from 5 days ago .... I rebooted the Wally receiver and everything else I knew to do .... knowing that with the volume of calls they are getting about their contract conflict with FOX Sports, I finally broke down and called DISH .... after being on hold for just under an hour my call was answered by a lady who I later learned is in the Philippines .... let me say right up front, she was a pleasure to work with .... for most of an hour she had me go to some screens that I didn't know existed, so from that point I did learn some things .... bottom line, our Wally (receiver) is bad .... when she told me she'd have one shipped right out and should be here in 4 to 5 business days, I told her that wouldn't do because we would be on the road in our camper .... she said she could have it to us in two business days but that would involve an extra charge ... I told her to go and check with the supervisor who'd she put me on hold to speak with several times and suggest that with week old equipment and a customer not happy with them for losing FOX Sports that the wave the $20+ fee.... she did and they did .... should be be here Tuesday and I have every intention of hooking it up and thoroughly testing .... with the campgrounds we will be visiting, I don't anticipate needing it on this trip but one never knows
