The Adult Evening Beverage

I'm about to enjoy a scotch and water. I raise the glass to my best friend, Mark, who graced my home last week. He arrived around seven and left at 0030 hrs. We both had work the next, same, day. I stopped way before he did. It was a fun night.

I was told by one of the "five" that if you have this many close friends, as my friend raised his hand and spread his thumb and fingers, you are lucky. I count myself as lucky. As one or two fade out, they are quickly replaced. One has remained for a long time and surely will for a long time to come.

Enjoying a near beer tonight. Brought the horses home this morning, air is clear and cold, and rain (or snow) in the forecast. Wife took a drive to Waterton Park today to see some of the fire damage. Ranches that used to be there; gone. Burned out valleys, miles of scorched earth and fences. The big fire is now listed as "contained". The one burning just south of our home is smaller as well and under control. It's been a tense summer. Set records for heat, drought and smoky air. Hope to get out and do some riding soon. Most of the back country will start to open back up.

I read this article about a woman, who just celebrated her 111th birthday. The article is part of my news app under the heading "Good News." Yup, good news and fun to read. http://www.insideedition.com/headlines/ ... ears-by-it

She told the reporter that "the secret to her longevity is quaffing a healthy slug of Scotch whisky every night before bed." I'd tend to agree with that. My Dad did the same every day for decades, and passed away just shy of his 97th birthday. Also Dad made his own various fruit flavors of brandy, harvesting his fruit trees, and making the drink in the still he had brought with him from Yugoslavia. Over the years he honed his still skill into producing 90-proof brandy (it may have been 100-proof -- powerful stuff)! I'm certain this "daily treat" was part of what contributed to his longevity. Enjoy!

I listen to a gun podcast where they drink Buffalo Trace. It's a funny podcast that is really great. If I run across it, I'll try it.

I met a very interesting gentleman tonight. He had a nice collection of things. A real nice fellow. I hope he joins here. He would add to our knowledge base.
