If you are not wearing a mask it is like giving a big middle finger everyone.

Re: What do the personal mask actually prevent?
Had a dental appointment yesterday. We knew they required masks but decided to leave ours in the car and see what happened. As soon as we entered we were given masks. Not good ones, just flimsy cloth with rubber bands for the ears. OK
Enter the dentist. He was wearing two masks, one on top of the other. His assistant had a mask and a face shield as well.
I asked how he planned to work with my mask on, which got a little laughter.
They were really nice about it, but I still hate dental work.

I hear this excuse that requiring mask goes against ones personal liberties BUT what about speed limits, traffic lights/signals, stop signs, etc.?

Those are revenue streams for the local jurisdictions so no problem.

Makes sense. So, an agreeable solution would be to impose a fine for the failure to wear a face mask, making it a revenue stream for the local jurisdiction and helping to curb the spread of Covid-19. Good idea. Thanks.

Re: What do the personal mask actually prevent?
Got back from our big outing in the city of Lethbridge. Everybody out and about, 70F today and sunshine. Garden center packed, Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, Costco, etc all busy. Some stores required a limit on people inside, some not. Some restaurants open, some not. Some places won't ever open again by the looks of the closed and for sale signs. Lots of smaller stores, restaurants gone. Shows how many live check to check or were just not doing well anyway. Very sad, but that's what fear and gov't lockdowns do. Saw a few people wearing masks, mostly young people oddly enough. Not many though, things looked pretty normal. Stores well stocked, and folks spending money. Anyhow, we had a nice breakfast out and the wife got to roam around which is good cuz she was driving me crazy at home!

That's the entrepreneurial spirit. Good for you! There's always a silver lining if you look for it. Money rules. Always has. Good will toward men is for fools.

Re: What do the personal mask actually prevent?
I might lose some friends here, but, I cannot hold back any more.
I almost lost my Dad over this Friggin virus.
Yes, we have many forms of the Flu every year. This one is VERY contagious though!!! That is the difference.
I'm all about building immunity to various germs. To think of what I did as a child is frightening in some cases. I applaud my son and DIL for thinking that way, however, this IS a strong adversary.
If you non mask wearers don't care about, or worry about your own well being, then that is your own prerogative.
If I did not HAVE to go to places that you do, ( such as grocery stores and pharmacies ), then I would not!!!
I do however, have to venture out on occasion, out of necessity and would only expect that the potential virus carrying ones, keep your germs against your own face and lungs. At least help me improve my chances!!!
This is real, as told by the numbers, and I do not feel there is anything political about it. ( I do have a thought or two about that potential ) but cannot voice it here.

Re: What do the personal mask actually prevent?
Mark, I don't think you will lose any friends on the forum, at least I certainly hope not. I respect your opinion, and I'm sure I speak for others when I say we are very glad your father is recovering. No doubt he had a rough go, and we were all pulling for him. I don't doubt for a minute that this flu is bad, and has certainly taken lives. My issue is I don't trust the information out there because there are too many forces at work trying to manipulate it for gain. Political, financial, or even some warped social media folks just doing it for fun. Any kind of thing like this brings out the best in humanity and the worst in humanity. As I get older I am having trust issues. Media and news sources I used to trust, I have lost faith in. More and more it seems they are agenda driven. Maybe they always were. We were raised to trust in science, yet in Canada for example we have noted "scientists" telling us we should all drive electric cars while they fly in private jets all over the country delivering their climate doomsday message. We have celebrities at anti-gun rallies with armed body guards. Southern Alberta is covered in hundreds of windmill towers for "sustainable energy", yet my electric bill hasn't gone down. So to wear a mask or not to wear a mask, that is the question. Today our restaurant server had one on, yet many of the store owners did not. Some stores had people waiting outside, some did not.
This video made me laugh the other day but it's also TRUE! Anyhow, I hope everybody gets it figured out and take whatever precautions you feel necessary. I don't have an issue with anybody wearing masks, but I believe it will do me and my wife more harm than good. There's an old cowboy's two cents. Enjoy the video....
