Outpatient Hip Replacement...
Re: Outpatient Hip Replacement...
Cool to hear plans are movin' forward well, Evan, and also that your doc is a "straight shooter." Whenever you get the target date, I'll get it on my calendar for a visit during your recovery time at home. I'll be sure to show up with "comfort food" in hand, too!

Visitors and comfort food are always welcome, Bob, so bring your friends, too! Hopefully the time at home will be short - will be hard for me to stay house=bound for long!

I gotta get on that scooter by this weekend, provided the snow melts by then. Supposed to be back in the 50s by next week; I can Vespa around when it's that warm!

So, now they work out pre-authorization and surgery center approvals with the insurance folks, and we book a date. Probably 30-45 days out, if the insurance stuff goes through in a timely manner (no assurances, just hope, for now).
what's the latest word on a date and how are you getting along ..

Re: Outpatient Hip Replacement...
Sorry to have been absent these last couple of weeks, you all. As usual, Mark hit it on the head, there's been a lot going on.
Have the surgery lined up for April 1st (yeah, I know) at 12:15pm, which means, according to this doc's protocol, that I'll be heading home by 5:30/6:00 that day.
It's been an interesting few weeks since getting that date established, with lots of due diligence between the doc and the insurance folks, making sure the paperwork has been flowing on a timely basis, lots of prodding, phone calls and emails, but, in the end, it's all pre-approved (including the post-op therapy work) and all the providers know what's happening.
It just takes time to connect the dots, and between that, my Parks & Rec gig, family stuff, the holidays, and a fair amount of "nesting" to get the house in order, time has escaped me. And, I decided to bring a gas line to the kitchen and put in a gas range, but I'm not doing the work, just coordinating the project; waiting now on a range delivery date to put all those wheels in motion, including 'donating' my electric range to my daughter and her fiance, who will be glad to have it!
And, during all this time, true to the doc's prediction, this osteoarthritis has marched on, with the pain becoming more constant and persistent, despite some prescription (but very low-dose) pain meds, supplemented by Tylenol and Naproxen. There was a time where the pain didn't wake me up during the night, but no more.
But, the end is in sight, and as long as I can go into the O.R. on April Fool's Day and not emerge with one leg shorter than the other ("April Fool!"), I'll be on the way to the "new life" that many have spoken of. When I heard April 1st, it seemed like forever, but the time surely does fly by the older I get, so it'll be here before I'm really "ready," at least in one category or another.

Getting old is tough............
I understand what you're going through. I had all those tests prior to my surgery as well.
Medicine these days is a far cry from ten years ago. Much easier. Just hang in there
and soon it will be over and it won't be long when you forget about it.

Re: Outpatient Hip Replacement...
When I had my right hip replaced two years ago, I asked the surgeon how he knew where to cut the femur. He smiled and jokingly said, "measure twice, cut once." Then he explained the procedure in more detail. He did a great job. Yours will, too.

Re: Outpatient Hip Replacement...
Thanks for the update Evan! Have been wondering if a date was set yet. Think about you often. We do miss having you here, but, totally understand.
As you said, time flies and this will be behind you before you know it.
I am scheduled for another ultrasound Feb. 26 to see what's going on with the DVT in my right leg. Need to get off the blood thinner so I can schedule my back surgery. I'm still in medical limbo.
BTW...we did the electric to gas conversion a few years ago...not cheap, depending on how much pipe is needed, and the path it needs to follow. Good luck to you on all counts!! Hope to talk in the near future.

Hey Evan
Good to see you back in here. Hope all goes well until the surgery. Makers 46 will help with that hip pain in a temporary need of some pain relief.

As always, thanks for your words of support and encouragement. Doesn't seem that long ago that I was counting down the months for this occasion, and now it's a matter of weeks. Will keep you posted but promise not to turn this into the E-Squared Blog!
Have a great weekend, y'all!

Re: Outpatient Hip Replacement...
Hey ES, Ive been of line for working for the past month. Good to see your update and surgery date. Don't worry about the date, my wife's was on Friday the 13th and she is doing great !
Dislocations are uncommon these days because of the variety of prosthetic s. My wife's original replacement last May dislocated in August. Reason was her pelvis had this weird rotation forward that put the prosthetic at the extreme angle. No one could have known. Second surgery in September with a different device to accommodate for the pelvis rotation, and she is doing great. No pain, no loss of range.
It's all good my friend and you will be glad you hung in and did it ! Looking forward to a picture of you kicking up your heals.
