I've only seen it once before, but it's available to stream on Netflix, so I plan to watch it again tonight. It made a deep impression on me and it's been a while. Thanks for bringing it to the top of the cue.

With all due respect to Mr Eastwood, this one has me confused by the details.
The cylinder he swaps to has cartridges in it (or so it looks to me). I could see swapping a cap and ball cylinder, bit if it takes cartridges, better to just swap cartridges.
Also, they appear to be empty cartrigdes based on the hollow at the other end of the cylinder.

With all due respect to Mr Eastwood, this one has me confused by the details.

The 1858 Remington had the ability to be converted to accept cartridges so that part would be auththentic but I doubt one would have multiple conversion cylinders to swap out.
It was no doubt a prop gun anyway so details might be sketchy.

Last night I re-watched my DVD of the original Lonesome Dove movie with Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall. Now that I am into Henry rifles, I noticed that unlike other westerns, the guns seemed to be pretty authentic and correct. Robert Duvall carried an original Henry rifle and a Colt .44 cartridge conversion. Tommy Lee Jones I believe carried a Remington cartridge conversion and an original Henry rifle as well. Some of the other characters carried Colt and Remington single actions and a couple of the "Indian" characters had what appeared to be Henry brass 1866 rifles. There was also a scene where a bad guy is shooting a scoped Sharps buffalo gun in what looks to be chambered in .45-70 Govt. He is shooting at Robert Duvall with it. Duvall then takes his Henry and uses the ladder sight to plug the guy from quite far away. There were also brass receivers everywhere to be seen and also a couple of trapdoor Springfield carbines and one Spencer carbine. I was surprised and glad that there was NOT one model 1894 Winchester which would have been incorrect timeline wise. A very good film and I highly recommend it if you have not seen it.

I remember watching Lonesome Dove on TV when it originally aired. Great story and mini-series. I have since bought a digital copy of it on iTunes, it is still a favorite.

True. A book by Frank Dobie called Cow People has bios of old time trail hands and trail bosses. Some of the stuff for the LD book was lifted right from quotes and history. Lots of Gus was based on trail boss Ab Blocker. Both Call and Gus also had lots of Charlie Goodnight and Oliver Loving. Both old trail bosses from history.

Anyone seen "Bone Tomahawk" with Kurt Russel? Excellent movie and nice Henry rifles and period correct revolvers. Throughout the movie Kurt Russel calls his Brass Henry a "repeater." Great movie. Also, another director who made sure that all the guns in his movies were period correct was John Milius. Great director and I believe he directed the original "Red Dawn" with Patrick Swayzee.
