Moving to Montana

I can remember mom washing clothes in a gas powered Maytag washer. The log cabin had a rock fireplace and the kitchen had a wood burning stove. In the summer mom would cook on a Coleman stove because of the excess heat. In the winter we would have to walk about two miles to the bus stop because the bus couldn't make it up the dirt road.

And it was uphill both ways to school.

Lol. That's nothin'. We had to walk five miles to school every day through six foot snow drifts. And it was against the wind both ways.

Oh... one thing to keep in mind. When you get settled in Montana and invite us all out there for a big Henry get together, I'll bring the beer and bratwurst.

I spent some vacation time a while back in Whitefish and Kalispell area of Montana and east of the mountains fishing Lake Francis near Valier, MT. I believe that's the name of the little town. It wasn't to far from that crazy place called Browning. Don't go there on the 4th of July. Now my cousin that lives in Whitefish tells me I wouldn't recognize it now it has changed that much. He also said not for the better at least in his mind.

I do not think that the winters are as bad HERE (Western side of the continental divide.) in Missoula or up in Noxon.

I can't compare it to WA state where you live because I only was there on one trip heading towards the END OF THE TRAIL on the Pacific Ocean - Seaside, Oregon (?) many years ago.

I am used to pretty BAD WEATHER year round and not only in the Winter Time where I used to live with my late husband in HIS home state - Great Lakes region in farm/lake country.

I grew up on the EAST COAST and that weather was good to me YEAR ROUND compared to the Great Lakes region close to the lake even though I LOVE THE WATER. I LOVE THE OCEAN MORE THAN LAKES and RIVERS too.

I LOVE the mountains, valleys and water all around here even if it seems TOO DRY to me at times.

I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THE PEOPLE, BEAUTY, WEATHER, ETC. ON THE EAST COAST TOO!!! FROM the Mid-Atlantic region up to Maine.

Washington State does not get nearly as cold as Montana. Even Mount Rainier at 14,410 feet it seldom gets below minus twenty. I live near Seattle with a mild wet climate and Ephrata which is a desert. Hot in the summer and down to the teens in the winter. I don't mind temps in the single digits but when you start talking minus then I'm thinking of staying inside. In my younger day I've camped in snow caves in minus temperatures.

I just want to be able to live a slower paced life.
