Hawaii?
Forgot to mention that today is the first day of school for the Spokane kids. I went to school in an old building near downtown that is still in use today. No A/C then and I bet there’s still no A/C. It’s going to be miserable for the students and teachers this week.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Another hot one on tap for today. The last two days we have set new record highs at 99 each day. Also the hottest day in September ever (since 1881 when record keeping started). Forecast for today is 102 here in Deer Park but we have a pretty heavy smoke layer that will help keep the temp lower. 59 this morning, much more comfortable than yesterday’s 67.
Four or five days ago we had a pretty severe lightning storm across the western and northern part of this area that started a half dozen wildfires. One was north of our property that was far enough away it didn’t concern me much. Well not anymore, it is spreading south right at our place which is now under a level 1 evacuation. Level 1 is the least severe meaning there’s a fire nearby and be prepared to evacuate. I estimate the fire line is approximately five miles away from out place. Firefighters are having trouble with this one as it’s in a very remote area with no roads or access for equipment. It is very close to Lake Roosevelt so the Fire Boss planes have quick access to water. I’m still not too concerned it will reach our place as once it gets within a couple of miles it will be in the timber company land behind us which is pretty heavily logged off and there are several roads for good access. But….if we get big winds again it could spot right over the logged forest and spark down where our place is.
Here’s a map showing our place and the fire line. The green is level 1 evacuation, yellow is level 2 and red is lever 3 Go Now! The red line is the actual fire line. The fire has grown to 5700 acres.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
90F here today. Going to 60 tomorrow and cooler after that with rain in forecast.
We’ve had a great summer. Green and lush, cooler temps and rain almost weekly for a day or so. Had some smoke yesterday for a bit but nothing at all this summer.
Looking forward to cool weather camp, just got a full size buffalo hide for my bed.
sleeping on the ground just got better.

busy day under a beautiful Carolina Blue Sky .... 79 with a RealFeel of 78 .... we seldom see the RealFeel temp lower this time of year .... they say it will rise another couple of degrees but I doubt it .... we've been out and about all day, biggest accomplishment, bringing home our new pickup

65 with a RealFeel of 72 with a 4MPH breeze under a beautifully clear Carolina Blue Sky .... forecasted high 87 with chance of afternoon/evening thunderstorms .... most of the things we need to take care of today center on us leaving in the morning to spend 4 days at Myrtle Beach

We really like Myrtle Beach. In fact we were there in March for a few days at Apache Pier.

60 this morning with very smoky skies. Cool down starts today but still 94 is the predicted high. There’s enough smoke that we might not see 94. Cooler this weekend and maybe some light rain first of the week. We sure need it.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Myrtle Beach is less than a 3 hr drive from our house .... when we went to Bass Pro a while back they had an area setup trying to get folks to sign up for a sales pitch at Myrtle .... unsure exactly what its all about, best guess some time share program .... we hav no interest in a timeshare but for free Motel and enough expense money to more than cover the trip, we decided to take them up on it .... all we have to do is listen to sales pitch .... with us buying a new truck right now 4 basically free days at the beach sounded pretty goodcooperhawk wrote: ↑Thu Sep 04, 2025 10:35 amWe really like Myrtle Beach. 68 when I got up earlier due to a heavy smoke layer. The sun is just now (noon) starting to peek thru a little bit. It’s supposed to stay this way thru tomorrow with a hint of rain on Sunday.
Several days ago I showed a picture of a part of the Spokane River with a dry bed. Last Tuesday our power company opened the dam above as scheduled and the riverbed is now flowing normally. So far, this has been the driest summer on record. Not good as the fall rains are still weeks away.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
We've been pretty smoke free this Summer but now it's somewhat smoky due to a couple of nearby fires started by the a recent lightning storm. Not too bad now, always remember how smoky it was one time years ago. Driving alongside the Columbia River and you could not see the other side. I was still working at that time and until we shut down all the outside HVAC air coming into the building you could look down the longer hallways and see the smoke.
