I raced (hot lapped) with Tom once in the late 60’s. He blew by me like I was standing still. We were both still in our teens but even then he was showing how good he really was. He came in second at Indy I believe three times before finally winning at Indy. They called him Mr Bridesmaid.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 10:23 amWhat about Tom Sneva? As a kid I grew up watching Tom running modifies out at the now long gone Spokane Fairgrounds Speedway. He dominated there and in fact did win the Indy 500 in the early 80’s. I believe he was season champion a time or two and was the first Indy driver to break 200 mph.

That’s awesome, what a treat to share the track with a future successful Indy car driver. Loved the entire Sneva family, two of Tom’s brothers (Jan and Babe) had some track time in the Indy series and the youngest brother Blain is my age and we went to school together. Blain was very successful here regionally bit I don’t think he ever did much nationally/internationally. Funny tidbit, when running Modified’s here at Stateline Speedway he drove the first all wheel drive modified in this area.Sir Henry wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 10:45 amI raced (hot lapped) with Tom once in the late 60’s.
