sitting here watching coverage of Dorian hammering Charleston .... so far, we've had a few sprinkles but its coming down hard in Fayetteville (about 20 miles south) and is on its way ....

Well, I just looked out the window. Looks like 40 mph winds with gusts higher. Lots of leaves and small branch trash on the ground. Power went off last night. I thought this is it for power until after the storm. Wasn't going to set up the generator until the storm was past. Power came on a couple minutes later. Winds are supposed to peak in another two hours. Rain hasn't been near as heavy as predicted. I may go out and look at the roof in a little while.

just spoke with friends who live in Charleston .... power has been out at his place since 2AM .... limbs down in his yard but nothing significant .... they have their portable generator going .... no AC but the temp is comfortable .... no internet for a while .... all in all, they are getting along OK

I just made a quick run through the neighborhood. A few limbs down and such, lots of leaf trash. Power is still on. My buddy in North Charleston has been out of power a few hours. I live about 15 miles more inland, so we don't get it quite so bad.

Everything seems to be quieting down A fair number of folks are on their porches or in their garage with the door open.

the eye is 45 miles SSE of Myrtle Beach and its outer bands are dropping rain on Raleigh .... local schools have already announced that they will close again tomorrow .... tornadoes have touched down, closest to us that I know of touched down about 20 miles from our place .... hopefully things will hold together as Dorian moves up our coast

the good news is, Dorian has passed over Cape Hatteras and is headed northeast out into the Atlantic .... haven't seen any damage assessments from the Outer Banks .... the sun is finally shinning in our area .... our power flickered a few times but, thankfully, that was it .... we did have steady rain for most of a day but it fell at a pace that didn't cause local flooding .... we were fortunate indeed

Well, for us here in Raleigh, it was virtually a non-event. We were very lucky the track stayed mostly off the coast.

They cancelled 2 days of school with the explanation that there “might” be a loss of power, but could easily have scheduled early release Thursday and delayed start on Friday with no impact to other “planned days off”. By doing a delayed start they could have made the decision Friday based on actual conditions.

Looking at pictures of the Bahamas and some areas right on the NC coast, I feel terrible for them.

agree on both .... as a precaution we setup our camper in our back yard so that we could move in if our power was to go out .... later today I plan to unhook the fresh water and gray water connections .... she'll be back in use this coming weekend so we need to get her ready to hit the road
