This live performance of "Autumn Leaves" by Eva Cassidy. Gets me every time I hear it, especially knowing that Eva is no longer with us.

I must admit I've not heard anything by Eva Cassidy before this song...and it was a poignant, beautiful performance. I think I will look for other music by her as I keep on adding to my songs folder. Yes, and it is sad she died so very young.
Appreciate your adding "Autumn Leaves" into this thread.

Thank you for sharing this. Unknown until now, it just became a part of my mournful soul.flat_topp wrote:This live performance of "Autumn Leaves" by Eva Cassidy. Gets me every time I hear it, especially knowing that Eva is no longer with us.

Just listened to that song version...wow, she was definitely a gifted singer!
Indeed, her voice can soothingly make "troubles melt like lemon drops...."

Re: Songs that make you cry.
We just watched "The Wizard of Oz" a couple days ago. As always, I read the trivia that goes along with this classic. The director had "Dorothy" sing a slower more emotional reprise of "Over the Rainbow" while she was being held prisoner in the wicked witch's tower. Judy Garland did such a good job that everyone on the set was in tears....
... everyone. Director, cameraman, the other actors watching from off set...
The director didn't want all the kids in the theatre to burst into tears, so the footage was scrapped.

I don't suppose there is any record of that version.

The trivia on imdb says no... I would have loved to have seen it.

Actually, I found a couple partial clips, I can see why they didn't use them. They tend to blur my screen.

Thank you, Marine. Judy Garland had such a talent; that a young girl could sing for the camera with tear filled emotions like she did is phenomenal.BrokenolMarine wrote:Actually, I found a couple partial clips, I can see why they didn't use them. They tend to blur my screen.

Thank you ol' Marine but I for one am glad they cut that part out, noble find that it was .
The final product was appropriate, IMHO.
BTW, I read somewhere that through all the tribulations (of making that film), Margaret Hamilton helped her the most, and I think they were life time friends?

If you're in the mood, this could do it. Five sisters; give them a few seconds........

Ten years ago! They're now aged from sixteen to nineteen years old and I wonder if they're still singing together (they were not identified other than as Texans). Thanks for the link. I love well performed Acapella. These sisters were great.Henry88 wrote:If you're in the mood, this could do it. Five sisters; give them a few seconds........

Thanks, flat_topp. Her performance that day was exceptional and knowing her backstory adds a heartbeat of percussion.flat_topp wrote:This live performance of "Autumn Leaves" by Eva Cassidy. Gets me every time I hear it, especially knowing that Eva is no longer with us.
I've listened to this recording more than a dozen times since you posted it; actually, many more than a dozen times. Now that I have it, I can't imagine a day from now on that I will not listen to it. She speaks to/from my mournful soul more than anything/anyone else has so far. I'm so glad you shared it with me.

Re: Songs that make you cry.
In a later interview, Judy Garland said it was hard to pretend to be scared of the Wicked Witch because Ms Hamilton was so sweet to everyone off set.Henry88 wrote:Thank you ol' Marine but I for one am glad they cut that part out, noble find that it was .![]()

Re: Songs that make you cry.
You're welcome. I've enjoyed her performance many times over the last 15 years or so, since I was first introduced to Eva's music via a gift (from my dear mother) of her "Songbird" CD which includes "Autumn Leaves." I now have at least 9 of her CDs in my collection, and listen to them frequently.CT_Shooter wrote:Thanks, flat_topp. Her performance that day was exceptional and knowing her backstory adds a heartbeat of percussion.

I to, was introduced to Eva via a gift of " Song Bird" from my sis. Isn't is remarkable what connections can be made through music. And this thread has taken on a life that I never imagined when I started it. So much sharing.
